Western Steam Camps

Math camp activity
What is Steam?  When you combine STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) with the Arts you get Steam.  Western is pleased to offer summer camps for kids 12 and up that combine the critical thinking of STEM with the arts.  In these unique camps, you child can

  • Learn about programming, modeling, physic, and math in our Computer Camp
  • Have fun while exploring the mathematical world in our Math Camp
  • Create music using a computer language designed to teach about music theory at the Computer Music Camp

These camps feature a small size, around 15 kids, and offer individual attention.  In addition to Steam topics, these camps provide a wide variety of recreational opportunities unique to the Gunnison valley.  Kids will go rafting on the Gunnison River, climb rocks, ride mountain bikes, and learn to paddle SUPs during the camps.

Each of these Steam camps lasts one week.  These camps offer both residential and non-residential options.  Residential camps run from Sunday to Saturday while kids that live in the Gunnison area can attend during the day from Monday to Friday.

We do not provide transportation to Gunnison for our camps but we make every effort to help set up car pools.

These camps are designed by Western's faculty and students.  They combine academics and recreation for both learning and fun.

Recreation is provided by Wilderness Pursuits, Western's outdoor program.  They provide expert staff to supervise all outdoor activities.
