Mentor Biographies

 

Dave Geiman: Dave is not only a businessman and humanitarian but an advocate for future thinkers, especially Western students. He hopes to not only help mentor students and prepare them for a professional life outside of college, but bring in various perspectives from all different walks of life into the Geiman Fellows Program. 

Annie Westbury: Annie is an alumna of Western Colorado University and now serves as a Program Coordinator for Student Engagement where she works as an advisor for the Geiman Fellows along with other Leadership Development Programs on campus. Annie’s key to success has always been built on a firm foundation of relationships.

Brooke Moran: Brooke is a tenured professor at Western Colorado University where she mentors students and teaches in the Recreation & Outdoor Education and Master in Environmental Management programs, as well as serves as the Geiman Fellows’ Coordinator. Whether in conference centers, the higher education classroom or in the mountains, Brooke has been employing experiential education as a vehicle for leadership development for 20 years.

Angelo Minisini is currently a junior at Western Colorado University. He is pursuing a major in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance, as well as two minors in Accounting and Economics. He is a short-sprinter on the Western's Division II track team.

Erik Hillman is a Junior at Western Colorado University studying Business Admiration with an emphasis on Resort Management. Erik is the President of the Hospitality Club, a Student Government Association Senator and a member of the service fraternity ODK.

 

Madison Hodge is a student at Western Colorado University, studying Recreation & Outdoor Education and Outdoor Leadership, as well as a passion for Special Education. While she is not studying, Maddie spends her time volunteering in the community for Gunnison-Crested Butte, climbing, trail running, hiking and loves to be in the National Parks. 

 

 

Kelly Barrows is currently a Junior at Western Colorado University studying Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing. Kelly enjoys fly-fishing unique waters, running exciting trails, and enjoying the Gunnison community.  

 

Mackenzie Bode is from Fort Collins, Colo., attending Western Colorado University as a business student who loves small towns and the outdoors. She is happiest in the saddle of a horse and aspires to one day live on a ranch and be a successful business woman in the equine industry.

Morgan Patterson is a non-traditional senior working towards a B.A. in Communication Arts with an emphasis in Film at Western Colorado University. After leaving the University of Colorado, he joined the team at Matchstick Productions, who are established pros in the winter sports world. He started as an intern with Matchstick Productions, and by the end of his four years, he was responsible for all social media marketing and branding.  

 

Morgan Schell is a sophomore at Western Colorado University studying Recreation & Outdoor Education with a minor is Sociology. Morgan grew up in Littleton, Colo., and has always had in interest in educating people. Whether it was teaching her friends how to ride their bikes, or by taking her senior year of high school to become an instructional intern at Windy Peak Outdoor Education Laboratory School.  

 

Olivia Murphy-Welconish is currently a sophomore at Western Colorado University. She is undeclared in her major, however, she is pursuing a minor in Philosophy. When not in the classroom, she can be found singing in both of Western’s choral ensembles or working at Western’s Leslie J. Savage Library as a Circulation Assistant.  

 

Skyeler Smith is a junior at Western Colorado University studying Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing. She loves art, music, animals, kids, food and her bed. Skye spends her downtime figure skating, drawing, painting and exploring the outdoors.

Tianna Terrell is a Junior at Western Colorado University studying Business Marketing with a minor in Biology. Tianna is a student athlete and has a passion for helping people in need and giving back to the community.

Thomas “Tommy” Evon lives his life based on a short list of principles, including honesty, open-mindedness and progression. These principles have helped him and will continue to guide him throughout his life. They help lead Thomas to optimize his life for what he finds most important: meaningful relationships, meaningful work, and adventure.

Anthony Oldani is a junior at Western Colorado University; he transferred from Colorado Mountain College in Steamboat Springs. He is majoring in Outdoor Environmental Education, and minoring in Environment and Sustainability.  

 

Audrey Bell is a junior at Western Colorado University studying Accounting and Business Administration, as well a minor in Pre-Law. Audrey plans to become a Certified Public Accountant and work for a small accounting firm while she works on her certification for Fraud Accounting. 

2017-2018 Geiman Fellow CJ Gooderham

CJ Gooderham is a junior at Western Colorado University pursuing a major in Environment & Sustainability and a minor in Biology. Gooderham is the president of the Gunnison Sockeyes River Conservation Club, a Sustainability coordinator with LEAD Sustainability.  

2017-2018 Geiman Fellow Dillon Post

Dillon Post is currently​ a junior at Western Colorado University majoring in Exercise & Sport Science with a minor in Chemistry. 

 

Eliza Lockhart is a junior at Western Colorado University studying Recreation & Outdoor Education with an emphasis in Outdoor Leadership and a minor in Philosophy. Eliza grew up riding horses and romping around outdoors in a small town in northern Vermont.

 

Jennifer Swomley is studying Exercise & Sport Science with a minor in Biology at Western. Jennifer has had the opportunity to build her technical and leadership skills from the Western Mountain Rescue Team.

2017-2018 Geiman Fellow Ryan Belson

Ryan Belson is currently a junior at Western Colorado University, pursing a degree in General Chemistry. Along with classes, Ryan is also heavily involved in the Chemistry Club, a volunteer for Gunnison Valley Animal Welfare League, and a leader of supplemental instruction for Organic Chemistry.  

 

 

Shelby Deutsch is a junior at Western Colorado University, studying Recreation & Outdoor Education with an emphasis in Outdoor Leadership, as well as two minors in Spanish and Art.  

2017-2018 Geiman Fellow Taja'Mir Butler

Taja’Mir Butler is studying Environment & Sustainability with a minor in English. Taj has a passion for writing that has transcended to her role as a Teacher’s Assistant on campus.  

 

Tukano Salat was born in Somalia in 1996. She and her family fled Somalia and lived in the Kakuma Refugee Camp until she was six years old. She is a junior at Western Colorado University studying Business Administration with an emphasis in Entrepreneurship and Marketing.

Hannah Montoya: Hannah is a junior at Western Colorado University studying Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing and Entrepreneurship, as well as a minor in Psychology. Her passions involve working in challenging environments and helping to lead others, as well as giving back to the community.

 

Ahmad Chudnoff: Ahmad is a soon-to-be graduate of Western Colorado University where he has studied Recreation & Outdoor Education and Environmental Education. Ahmad is a curious learner who constantly challenges himself with new ventures and projects.

 

Patrick Tan: Patrick is a sophomore at Western Colorado University, pursuing a double major in Cellular Biology and Business Administration. Patrick’s main passion is to help others and to be a resource for them. 

Allie Huizenga: Allie is a senior at Western Colorado University studying Business Administration with an emphasis in Energy Management and minoring in Spanish. Allie enjoys doing new things and working on bettering herself as a person.

Josh Hirschman: Josh is a junior at Western Colorado University studying Computer Science. Josh has always enjoyed the outdoors, and cherished the spontaneity and unpredictability that adventure and travel brings.
