Residential students may choose their meal plan during the housing application process. Off-campus students may order a meal plan by contacting Residence Life in UC 117 or by email at reslife@western.edu. Meal plan changes or cancelations must be requested in writing by emailing Residence Life at reslife@western.edu.

*The Blue Mesa Plan or Mountaineer Plan is required for all first-year students.
**This plan is only available to second-year students or above.

Campus Dietitian

Western Colorado University’s campus dietitian is Gina Vega, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. Her primary role as the Campus Dietitian is to liaison between the student and our culinary team. Gina provides accommodations for any individual who may experience nutritional issues ranging from a medical condition such as Celiac disease to a food allergy. She also offers nutrition counseling for all students. Rare Air Café

The Rare Air Café embodies convenience and community. From dawn to dark, you can enjoy a well-balanced, all-you-can-eat selection of food while enjoying downtime with friends, classmates or even just a quiet meal by yourself.

In a rush or short on dining time? Simply purchase a “Choose to Reuse” container, load it up and dash off to your next class, meeting or the bus up to Crested Butte. The Rare Air has gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options.

If you have a specific food allergy, please address your need by calling Dining Services at 970.943.2000.

Mad Jack’s

Located in the heart of campus at the University Center, Mad Jack’s is the place to swing by for a quick snack, cup of coffee or late-night tub of ice cream. Outfitted with coffee tables, comfy couches and fireplaces, you will frequently see students studying and gaming as much as they are eating.

Hours: Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m.-8 p.m. and weekends 1-7 p.m.

Everyday App

The Everyday app allows students to view dining hours, menu nutrition and allergen information for the Rare Air Café. Students can download the Everyday app (by Dynamify) on their mobile device.
