How did you discover Western?
I attended Western as an undergraduate student from 1990 to 1997. I double-majored in History and Kinesiology. I returned to Western in 2013 as an Assistant Professor in Exercise & Sport Science.
What are some of the highlights of your career?
- Publication of more than 100 peer-reviewed papers
- External grant funding close to $1 million
- Academic appointments in New Zealand and Australia
- Supervisions of four dozen MSc students and six Ph.D. students
What most excites you about your field?
Our discipline brings the knowledge, skills and abilities to solve some of the most pressing issues facing our society today, including heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and other chronic conditions related to physical inactivity and sedentary lifestyles. Our faculty, staff and students can make a positive impact on our community health and beyond.
What is your favorite thing about the Gunnison Valley?
The collaborative partnerships that exist between various community constituents and Western. In particular, I'm amazed at how receptive and supportive the medical professionals of the Gunnison Valley have been toward Wellness Elevated.
