The Institute offers a variety of graduate credit content courses designed specifically for K-12 educators who want to enrich their existing curricula. Participants enhance their content knowledge, share pedagogy, learn creative ways to deliver lessons and network with educators from throughout Colorado and beyond. Intensive seminars with qualified instructors immerse participants in their subjects.
The one-, two- and three-credit course options offer opportunities for hands-on, individualized activities, instructional enhancements, use of outdoor classrooms, and personal and professional growth. Topics range from using technology in the classroom for effective teaching, teaching better writing skills, art, service learning, math, and a variety of history classes and science courses. Many include field trips and hands-on activities, which educators can use in their classrooms.
Educators can register for classes the entire two weeks or select various classes throughout that time. On-campus housing is available.
If registered by May 18 with other colleagues, educators can qualify for an early registration discount of up to 50 percent for the Teacher Institute classes.
Funds provided by the Ann Zugelder Endowment have allowed Western to expand initiatives in offering graduate credit courses for teachers.
