Inaugural Art Convocation Presents Opening Exhibit in Quigley Gallery
Thursday, September 08, 2016
Quigley Concert Hall and Gallery
The new Quigley Gallery at Western State Colorado University will be showing its inaugural exhibition, Dystopia, the sculpture of Bryson Hsiang Darnel, September 8 – 23, 2016. Darnel graduated from Western in 2008 and will be the featured alumni artist for the opening of the new state-of-the-art facility in the renovated Quigley Hall.
Darnel works in steel, wood, and mixed media. He has pursued his Chinese ancestry as source of both inquiry and inspiration in his sculpture. His journey has been punctuated by both revelation and disillusionment, as he repeatedly found that the traumatic Cultural Revolution (1966 ̶ 1976) had profoundly disrupted the artistic continuity of his homeland. His works in this exhibition straddle this void of forgotten history.
Darnel will present on his show in the John and Georgie Kincaid Concert Hall, Thursday, September 8, at 12:30. Reception and refreshments to follow.
