Apologies! Due to unforeseen circumstances Opera Colorado will not be able to come to Gunnison tomorrow. There will not be a master class or performance tomorrow night.
Members of the Opera Colorado Young Artists program will be on campus for a voice master class and a performance of Romeo and Juliet. At 12:30 pm in Quigley Recital Hall the Young Artists will facilitate a voice master class with Western music students Ian Weber, Lily Olsen, Scott Bird, and Dani Austin. That evening at 7:30 pm in Taylor auditorium the Young Artists will present an abbreviated version of Charles Gounod’s Romeo and Juliet, sung in English.
“In fair Verona where we lay our scene.” Journey with us as we present the world-famous love story Romeo and Juliet. Gounod’s opera is based on the play by William Shakespeare. Follow the star-crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet as they meet and fall in love, choosing to risk everything for each other. What lessons can be learned by their actions? The story unfolds through gorgeous music as well as scenes from Shakespeare’s original text and is sung in English. Updated staging and costumes help audiences of today relate to a story written long ago—that is still relevant and important.
Both events are free and open to the public.
