Western Club Sports provide student engagement and development through competitive opportunity.

Club Sports are dedicated to providing students with opportunities to participate in competitive intercollegiate sports—all while fostering leadership, creating lasting friendships, building character, and encouraging involvement on campus and in the Gunnison community.

Western’s Club Sports teams play other colleges and universities around Colorado, Utah, and Montana. Each Club has the opportunity for national competition. Coaching varies by team, but all Club Sports participants can expect to practice around three times per week, with the opportunity to compete in the fall and spring. Practice schedules are built around student availability as best as possible.

Teams

The Baseball Team is one of the longest-running teams on Western’s campus. In 2010, the team was ranked eighth in the U.S. and went to the World Series in Johnstown, Pa. While spring may arrive late in Gunnison, our players make the most of it to play. The team competes in NCBA Division II, District VIII. The district members include Denver University, Johnson and Wales University, Colorado College, Fort Lewis College, University of Colorado Colorado Springs, Colorado Mesa University, CSU-Pueblo, and New Mexico Tech.

Club Sports Council provides operational support for the greater Club Sports Department. The Council works on departmental strategic planning, marketing and media, programming and fundraising coordination, general Club Sports participant engagement, Gunnison community involvement, and youth clinics.

The Council exists to help students who have a general leadership interest, whether that is council management and oversight, coordination, organization, marketing, programming, fundraising, and/or community engagement.
