About Career Services

Western's Career Services office supports students and recent alumni at all levels of career development. We work with students individually and in group settings to develop the knowledge, attitudes and skills to envision, plan and execute successful internship and job searches. We partner with employers, faculty and the community to provide events, advising and networking opportunities so that every Mountaineer is prepared to launch a meaningful career upon graduation. 

Employer Policy & Guidelines

Career Services aims to provide an accessible, professional and successful recruiting program for both students and employers. The following guidelines and policies shall be strictly observed by all employers wishing to recruit at Western, either in-person or virtually, or to participate in Career Services events.

Career Services at Western Colorado University provides a range of services and events in order to prepare students for a successful transition to their chosen career after graduation. These services and events include employer development and relations, job and internship postings, on-campus and virtual recruiting opportunities, career and job fairs, informational sessions and individual and group career advising. Any recruiting individual or organization must abide by all local, state and federal employment laws; Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) laws; university policies; and the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Principles for Ethical Professional Practice.

Handshake is an online platform for publicizing bona fide jobs, internships, and volunteer opportunities. Recruiters should provide an accurate description of their organization, position(s), and requirements when posting positions and when representing their organization to Western students, staff, and faculty.

No position posting may require application fees, investments or donations. Goods and services may not be advertised via any position posting. Postings violating these guidelines will be removed and additional action may be taken at the discretion of Career Services.

Additionally, Career Services reserves the right to decline or remove services to organizations or individuals due to any of the following:

  • Requiring sensitive personal information at the time of application (e.g., Social Security Number, bank account information)
  • Intentional or negligent misrepresentation of any organization, individual or position, whether through the presence or absence of information
  • Fraud
  • Harassment of any Western student, alumni, faculty member or staff member
  • Violation of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), university policy or Career Services policies and guidelines
  • Any violation of local, state or federal laws
