Student engagement and development through competitive opportunity

Western Colorado University’s Club Sports Department is dedicated to providing students who have a passion for a particular sport the opportunity to participate in intercollegiate competitive sporting competitions - all while fostering leadership, creating lasting friendships, building character, and encouraging involvement in the campus and Gunnison community as a whole.

The Club Sports Department at Western

Club Sports teams are designed to be a learning experience for the members through their involvement in fundraising, public relations, organization, administration, budgeting, and scheduling. Involvement in a group and/or team situation helps enhance each student's overall education while living in the University setting. The leadership training and opportunities available through active participation in a club sport are intended to benefit the participant throughout his/her life.

The Club Sports Council

The Club Sports Council

Club Sports Council members

The Club Sports Council provides operational support for the greater Club Sports Department. The Council is an incredible opportunity for students to engage with the Club Sports community and accomplishes the following: departmental strategic planning, marketing and media for all clubs, programming and fundraising coordination, general Club Sports participant engagement, Gunnison community involvement, youth clinics, and the general engagement, oversight, and development of the general Club Sports participants and clubs.

The Council exists to help students who have a general leadership interest, whether that is council management and oversight, coordination, organization, marketing, programming, fundraising, and/or community engagement. This opportunity is not neccisarily for experts, but rather for those who are interested to try new things and work to accomplish goals. These goals are set in collaboration with the general Council and Staff Advisor. With general oversight from the department and various other positions on the Council, students have the ability to help the greater Club Sports community accomplish great things throughout the year!
