We have two great degree pathways to earn a degree in Computer Science. Both provide outstanding preparation for high-paying, high-demand jobs in one of the world’s fastest-growing professions. Both lead to a Bachelor of Science degree, and best of all, you’ll take all of the courses on Western’s stunning campus in Gunnison:
In this ground-breaking new program, you have the opportunity to earn your Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Colorado Boulder's College of Engineering & Applied Science, the highest ranked public school in Colorado and 16th among public engineering programs in the nation. On this pathway you are admitted as a Western student, and after your second year, you transfer to University of Colorado Boulder to complete your degree—all while still attending classes in Gunnison.
On this pathway you’ll complete your degree as a Western student and can choose your specialized program emphasis in Software Engineering, Information Security or Data Science. You’ll have the opportunity to take on difficult projects in software development and learn state-of-the-art cyber security and data science through modern coursework. Students graduate ready to make positive contributions to the world through in-demand, exciting and rewarding careers.

The need for Computer Scientists is staggering; last year there were 10 times more open computing jobs than graduates in the field—some 540,000 open computing jobs. In 2016 the Obama administration projected this number would nearly triple by 2020 to some 1.4 million openings.
