Western State College of Colorado is a great place to get involved and make an impact. Join one of over 50 clubs or start your own! Find you niche whether its joining Western's Mountain Rescue Team- the only college-based team in the country or writing for the Top 'O the World Student Newspaper. Our Athletic Clubs are also extremely active- traveling all across the region competing against other college teams.
Special Interest Clubs
Western has a diverse list of Special Interest clubs for you to get involved with. Join the Sustainability Club and work in the campus community gardens or with the recycling program or if theater is your thing audition or work backstage on a play with Peak Theater Productions. Finding yourself and defining who you are is a major part of college. It's a fact that students who get involved on campus are more successful and satisfied with their time here at Western. Academic Clubs
Many of the majors at Western have developed special clubs to pursue academic work outside of the classroom. For example, members of Psi Chi, the national honor society in psychology and the Psychology Club recently organized two recent blood drives on campus, worked on the Oxfam Hunger Project, and volunteered at the Gunnison Habitat for Humanity house. Athletic Clubs
Club sports at Western are a great way to stay active and competitive. Our club teams compete against other colleges in the state and region and travel frequently for games. Teams include both men's and women's sports as well as coed teams for Adventure Racing, Cheerleading and Cycling. And Western teams win competitions! Our Cycling Team won the Division II National Championship and was named the Collegiate Club of the Year by USA Cycling. Athletic Clubs »
Western Athletes Winning Awards on Two Wheels
Western's cycling team won two very distinguished honors in 2006. They competed in the 2006 USA Cycling Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships and came back with a team title. The team was also named Collegiate Cycling Team of the Year by USA Cycling.
Since Gunnison and Crested Butte offer some of the best mountain and road biking terrain in the country it~Os no surprise that the team did so well. They train at Hartman Rocks which is a mere 3 miles from campus.
Western students took three individual titles. Garrett Brady was the national champion in short track, Amy Scherm took the title in downhill and was second in Ominum (overall champion) and Kate Chapman took the title in Mountain Cross and took the Ominum-overall champion title as well (she is pictured at right). Congrats Western cyclists!
