Trustees of Western State College


Peter Dea served as CEO and president of Western Gas Resources, Inc. from 2001-2006 after leading Barrett Resources Corporation as CEO and chairman. Both energy companies were listed on the New York Stock Exchange with multi billion dollar market capitalizations prior to their acquisitions. Dea also serves on the Board of the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, Denver Economic Development Corporation, Green print Denver, Alliance for Choice in Education and several trade associations. Dea was also a member of the Western State College Foundation Board. He graduated from Western in 1976 with a degree in geology and was an adjunct professor in Geology at Western in 1979 and 1980. He earned a masters degree in geology from the University of Montana in 1981 and attended the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program in 1999. His wife Cathy and three sons Drake, Austin and Cort share residences between Golden and Crested Butte, CO.

George Delaney served as Budget Director for the State of Colorado from 1994 through 1998. He spent a 32-year career with the State of Colorado including twelve years as a manager in the State Department of Corrections and twelve years in the Executive Budget Office as Deputy and Director. Delaney worked in the Colorado Community College System from 1998 through his state retirement in 2005. During this period, he served as system Vice President for Finance; Executive Vice President; and Interim Chief Operating Officer responsible for all administration of the 13 college Community College system. Currently Delaney serves as Deputy Manager for the Department of Public Works in the City and County of Denver appointed by Mayor John Hickenlooper. He is responsible for all administrative and financial operations in the Department and citywide fleet management.


Stephanie Foote was employed for 15 years in the petroleum industry until 1983, when she was elected to the Denver City Council. Foote was elected to three terms, serving as president of the City Council in 1987 and 1988. In 1993, she was appointed by Mayor Wellington Webb as chief of staff, and she held that position for seven years. In January 2000, Mayor Webb appointed Foote manager of Public Works and deputy mayor.


Peter F. Kirchhof is the founder and President of the Kirchhof Group, Inc. providing professional consulting services to clients needing assistance with government affairs and business development.  Pete has over 21 years of experience in federal, state and local legislative and regulatory lobbying; grassroots advocacy; and political program management.  His professional and volunteer experience has provided Pete with established business and community contacts to help clients get connected to achieve their goals.  He has hands-on business experience as the managing owner of Kirchhof Family Enterprises, LLC that owns and operates a retail center in Glendale, Colorado. 

Sandra L. Mark married fellow Western State College alumnus, Leon G. Mark, and traveled the world for thirty-one years in support of his career as a United States Air Force officer.  During those years she lived in nine different states and three foreign countries (England, USSR and Germany).  Upon returning to Gunnison she has been active as a volunteer in civic organizations.  Some of her past affiliations include the Gunnison Council for the Arts, the Gunnison Home Association, and the Gunnison Valley Hospital Board of Trustees.  She is also a past president of the Western State College Foundation Board of Directors.  She presently serves on the WSC President’s Advisory Council and as past president continues to serve on the Board of Directors of the Gunnison Area Community Foundation.

Linda Morton served ten years on the Lakewood, Colorado City Council and eight years as Mayor of Lakewood.  During that time she was Chairwoman of DRCOG (Denver Regional Council of Governments), Chairwoman of the Metro Mayors Caucus, and a member of the Board of the National League of Cities and the National Association of Regional Council of Governments.  She also served as Vice President of the Colorado Municipal League.  Currently she owns Morton Consulting Co. and serves on the board of the Bell Policy Center, Civic Results and is Vice Chairwoman of the Post/News Colorado Colfax Marathon Board.


Gregg Rippy is president and co-owner of Grand River Construction and also a managing partner of Rocky Mountain Redi-Mix and a member of the Board of Directors of Bank of Colorado and of American Alkali. He is a former Colorado state congressman and served as the House District 61 representative beginning in 2002. Prior to that he had been the District 57 representative from 1999-2001.

Valerie Schmalz is the owner of Schmalz Construction, Ltd. and Schmalz Leasing in Gunnison, both of which have been established for over 30 years. In 1994, she served as campaign manager for Congressman Scott McInnis. Schmalz also serves on the honorary Board of Directors for Colorado Women’s Hall of Fame. She is a 1993 Western graduate with a degree in business administration.

Pat Wiesner is owner of Wiesner Publishing in Centennial, Colorado. He currently serves on the board of directors for the Denver Metro Chamber, the Public Education and Business Coalition, the Public Education Network, and Junior Achievement.

Allen Stork, serving as the faculty trustee for 2007-2008, is a full professor of Geology. He's taught at Western since 1985 and during his time here has served as a department chair, faculty senate chair as well as on most of the major campus committees. As a geologist his research and teaching interests include all aspects of the igneous petrology and volcanology of the Gunnison Basin.

Alex Stigall, the student trustee for 2007-08, is a senior majoring in Recreation with an emphasis in Outdoor Leadership & Education and a minor in Psychology. She transferred to Western from Red Rocks Community College in Lakewood. After serving as the Director of Program Council for a year she is now the President of Western's Student Government Association. She also has served as a Peer Mentor for Residence Life in addition to being active in other groups on campus.
