Western State College is offering an online teacher licensure program; Teach Now. Within this program, there are two uniquely different routes for candidates seeking elementary, secondary, special education or linguistically diverse education licensure.
School districts are invited to engage in a partnership with Western State College to implement these post-baccalaureate teacher licensure programs. Both Teach Now Program routes are twelve months and provide on-the-job teacher preparation for second career professionals. Candidates must be successful in their college coursework and in the classroom with students in order to be recommended for licensure. Candidates will be paired with master teachers for one full year to ensure intensive professional guidance and mentorship.
Route 1: Teach Now Alternative Licensure
Route 2: Teach Now Internship
This route is designed for candidates who have a full time teaching position in an accredited Colorado school. The alternative licensure candidate must be teaching at least 51% of their day in the content area that they are seeking licensure. Candidates are responsible for securing their own teaching position.

This route is designed so that candidates receive intensive licensure training in K-12 classrooms within their local communities. During the internship, candidates will be working with master teachers in the same content area that they are seeking licensure. Interns are required to work with a mentor teacher for a minimum of 24 hours per week throughout the school year. Interns are also expected to participate in activities such as team or content area planning, special education conferences, staff meetings, student supervision, parent/teacher conferences, etc. Typically, Internships are non-paid by the school district.
