Saturday, Feb. 11: Ski and soak at Waunita Hot Springs. Want to learn how to cross-country ski or improve your cross-country skiing skills? Join Wilderness Pursuits for a fun-filled day of cross-country skiing, followed by a relaxing soak in Waunita Hot Springs. Cost: $25

Wilderness Pursuits: Beginner Backcountry Skiing
Crested Butte backcountry
Saturday, February 4: Join Wilderness Pursuits for an introduction to backcountry skiing near Crested Butte. Learn the basics of backcountry travel and avalanche awareness while making turns in our beautiful local mountains. You must attend a free WP Beacon Clinic before participating in this course. Cost: $15

Wilderness Pursuits: Beacon Clinic

Thursday, Feb. 2 at 4 p.m. in the WP Office: Review your beacon skills with Wilderness Pursuits at our free Beacon Clinic. These free informational sessions are designed to get students thinking about avalanche awareness, traveling in avalanche terrain, as well as beacon, shovel, probe and rescue techniques before traveling in the backcountry. This clinic is a prerequisite for WP backcountry ski/board trips.

Crested Butte
January 27-29: This 2-1/2 day course taught by Crested Butte Mountain Guides will take you through a decision-making process to help you decide where, how and when to travel in the backcountry. Cost: $225; payment due on registration. This course cannot be taken for credit.

Saturday, Jan. 21: Ready to take your ice climbing skills to the next level? Join Wilderness Pursuits for two days of ice climbing at the Ouray Ice Park and spend the night in a cabin after soaking in the Ouray hot springs. Cost: $45

Wilderness Pursuits: Level 1 Avalanche Course
Crested Butte
Friday, Dec. 2, Crested Butte with Crested Butte Mountain Guides - NOT FOR CREDIT - Payment due on registration. This 2.5 day course will take you through a decision-making process to help you decide where, how and when to travel in the backcountry. You will be introduced to avalanche hazards and have both classroom as well as hands-on field experience to help you better manage your backcountry travel. You will learn the basics of how to recognize avalanche hazards, how to manage and minimize risk, and how to respond in case of an emergency. You can expect to gain an understanding of safe travel in a winter environment, what sorts of hazards to watch for, and the various pressures that weigh on the decision making process. You are responsible for travel to and from the course location, as well as for food and equipment. Half price equipment rentals are available for this course through Wilderness Pursuits. Cost: $225

Saturday, October 29: Choose from rock climbing at Hartman Rocks, rock climbing at Taylor Canyon, mountain biking at Hartman Rocks, or hiking Bambi's Trail at Hartman Rocks. Bring Mom and Dad and maybe your little sis or bro and head to the hills with Wilderness Pursuits to show your fam where you get to play. Sign up at Family Weekend check-in on Friday. These trips are free, so get outside and enjoy Gunnison.

Wilderness Pursuits: Advanced Multi-Pitch Rock Climbing
Colorado National Monument, Grand Junction
Saturday, October 22: Otto's Route in Colorado National Monument - 5 pitches of 5.9+. Otto's Route on Independence Monument is a classic desert tower with 5 pitches of juggy holds. Participants must be comfortable with belaying a lead climber, self-anchor systems and hanging out 400 feet off the ground on a ledge. Cost: $25

Wilderness Pursuits: Backpacking the Blackridge Wilderness

October 14-16: Explore sandstone canyons and arches on this desert backcountry trip. It is starting to get cold so why not head to the desert and hike amongst 1,000 foot cliffs and visit the second largest concentration of natural arches in the world? If you don’t have any backpacking experience, don’t worry -- WP has packs and sleeping systems for you to use. So come out and enjoy the desert with WP! Cost: $40

Henson Creek
Saturday, October 1: Learn to rappel, place gear and mock lead at Henson Creek, home of God's Crag, which is one of the untouched and little known climbing crags in Colorado. Be ready for bushwhacking and high-altitude hiking. After that, enjoy rock climbing like nowhere else in the Valley. Cost: $25

Wilderness Pursuits: Intro to Mountaineering
Mt. Crested Butte, Taylor Canyon and Gothic
Saturday, September 10: Learn mountaineering technique and climb Guide's Ridge on Mt. CB. In this introduction to mountaineering, you will learn the basics of rope travel and mountaineering techniques for safe travel in the backcountry. You will spend a day in Taylor Canyon doing "round school" and then head up Valley to spend the night near Gothic Town site and stare down your opponent for the next day -- Guides Ridge on Mt. Crested Butte. This is a great way to explore and challenge yourself in the high alpine terrain of Crested Butte. Cost: $25

Week of Welcome (WOW) Trips with Wilderness Pursuits

Get to know other students and the local area on these free Wilderness Pursuits trips during the Week of Welcome. Trips include rock climbing and mountain biking at Hartman Rocks and rafting on the Gunnison River. Sign up in the WP Office beginning Aug. 18. Refundable deposit due upon registration.
