Trips for Wilderness Pursuits

Wilderness Pursuits: Beginner Backcountry Skiing (Crested Butte backcountry, from Feb 04, 2012 08:00 AM to Feb 04, 2012 05:00 PM)
Saturday, February 4: Join Wilderness Pursuits for an introduction to backcountry skiing near Crested Butte. Learn the basics of backcountry travel and avalanche awareness while making turns in our beautiful local mountains. You must attend a free WP Beacon Clinic before participating in this course. Cost: $15
Wilderness Pursuits: Cross Country Skiing and Hot Springs (Waunita Hot Springs, from Feb 11, 2012 08:00 AM to Feb 11, 2012 05:00 PM)
Saturday, Feb. 11: Ski and soak at Waunita Hot Springs. Want to learn how to cross-country ski or improve your cross-country skiing skills? Join Wilderness Pursuits for a fun-filled day of cross-country skiing, followed by a relaxing soak in Waunita Hot Springs. Cost: $25
Wilderness Pursuits: Beacon Clinic (WP Office, College Center 120, from Feb 16, 2012 04:00 PM to Feb 16, 2012 06:00 PM)
Thursday, February 16, 4 p.m., Wilderness Pursuits Office: Review your beacon skills at the free Wilderness Pursuits Beacon Clinic. This session is designed to get you thinking about avalanche awareness, traveling in avalanche terrain, as well as beacon, shovel, probe and rescue techniques before traveling in the backcountry. This clinic is a prerequisite for WP backcountry ski/board trips.
Wilderness Pursuits: Advanced Ice Climbing in Ouray (Ouray, Colo., from Feb 18, 2012 08:00 AM to Feb 20, 2012 05:00 PM)
Saturday, Feb. 18: Take your climbing to the next level then soak in the hot springs. Spend Presidents' Weekend with Wilderness Pursuits in beautiful Ouray, Colo., for three amazing days of world-renowned ice climbing at the Ouray Ice Park. Nights will be spent at the Ouray Riverside Inn after soaking in the Ouray Hot Springs. This is an advanced course and students should have ice climbing experience prior to registering for this course. Cost: $50
Wilderness Pursuits: Gothic Backcountry Ski/Board Trip (Gothic Backcountry, from Feb 18, 2012 08:00 AM to Feb 20, 2012 05:00 PM)
Saturday, Feb. 18: Need some fun plans for Presidents' Weekend? Join Wilderness Pursuits for a three-day, two-night backcountry ski hut trip to the beautiful Gothic town site. Spend your three-day weekend skiing Snodgrass Mountain and the surrounding areas. Cost: $40

Mission Statement

The mission of Wilderness Pursuits is to provide low-cost and professional quality co-curricular outdoor expeditions and resources for the students of Western State College. Wilderness Pursuits trips are led by students and are designed to meet the needs of a broad range of abilities and interests while addressing outdoor skills as well as community, citizenry, environmental stewardship and healthy lifestyles. Wilderness Pursuits operates under commercial permits through the United States Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management.
