  • Smoke free campus: Nick: we did not want to create a huge uproar so we are trying to enforce the federal law of 30 ft from building. We are thinking posters to inform and the crimson and slate line to smoke behind the line. We thought of the campaign “smoke this and not that” like smoked sausages.
  • Grace: Smokers usually stay close to the building because it’s cold. Maybe we could have an overhang or something?
  • Nick: We also need to talk about moving ash trays because they are right by the buildings.
  • Academic Policies committee: Ciera: The big thing on the agenda was whether to allow a student to take 22 credits, the max now is 21. He has been in the 4 credit class for a month already and has a good grade so we rewarded him in allowing him to keep 22 credits. There is talk about creating a new schedule, J term, 4 day/wk??
  • Program Council SGA co sponsorship committee: Going really well. We look over student’s proposals and help them with parts they are missing.

·        Walker:                                          Soccer Club Statement

Many of you may have heard about the incident that occurred with the Western State men’s Soccer Club during the weekend of October 8th while traveling for the University of Northern Colorado Tournament. The alleged incident took place in a room at the hotel where the team was staying at, in which a few members of the team participated in actions that violated the Western State Club Sports Conduct Code. The members involved were then contacted by hotel staff and charged a $250 smoking fee in a non-smoking room. Because of the isolated nature of the members involved, it was agreed upon that they pay the full amount of the fine and face the loss of playing time during the tournament. In reality though, the fine was not paid, and an outstanding balance of $250 remained on the team’s bill. The following week, the club sports director received the bill and passed on the information to Student Affairs because of the nature of the violation. The players involved had meetings with Student Affairs and the outcome of those meetings is not known to me at this time.

There have been many rumors flying around campus about this incident particularly, and the future of the facilities that club sports is allowed to use by Western State College. At this time I would like to squash some of them and give you the facts and mandated actions club sports and Student Affairs have seen as fitting.

To begin with, the remainder of the men’s soccer season has been cancelled, including three more games and a possible at large bid for the regional tournament. Furthermore, the club must generate an action plan by November 5th that details its plans to regain a good standing with the administration, the campus as a whole, and the community. This plan must be executed no later than Thanksgiving break, and positive strides must continue throughout the semester and into the future. Finally, the $250 fine has been paid with player dues at no cost to the school.

The rumors that are not true are as followed. Any club, including the men’s soccer team, still has full use of the vans provided by facilities services for the purpose of traveling to and from games. The school was not charged $800 for the compensation of other guests staying in the hotel. Finally, the men’s soccer team has not been cut from school funding at this time, and will remain a sanctioned club as long as the mandated terms are met.

This incident has shown how the actions of a few can have a direct and drastic impact on many. Despite the isolation of the incident, we must suffer the consequences as a whole. After all, that is the nature of a team. The men’s soccer club as a whole is still committed to maintaining a positive representation of Western State College, and acting responsibly and maturely on and off the field. The club intends to abide by all the sanctioned consequences handed down by the administration and club sports in a timely and professional manner.

  • Chris: Tomorrow there is a humans vs zomibies in ballroom 9 am. Nov 1-5 will be the humans vs zombies game. November 2-3 Western’s Got Talent Auditions 2 weeks ago I asked you guys to check out elibrary online and no one has so please do!
  • Nick: none
  • Sam: oct 29 rodeo club is having social dance in lower gym lots of music and mechanical ride $2 a ride

XI. Discussion Items

·        Rail jam bill: Sam

·        Free Skier is our sponsorship and we are working towards Colorado Boarder and Chamberland Orthopedics. Since WSC is a big outdoor college this will be a popular event because the prizes direct towards this group. I have emailed almost 60 different companies in CO to get sponsorships. These sponsorships are more towards prizes and not money. We are getting event insurance and most is provided, but we still need money to cover the rest.

·        Sarah: What happens if we don’t fund it?

·        We will just have to find someone else.

·        Lauren: We have a policy that programs must affect the students directly. Is it possible to use some of the profits to benefit the students like help pay RTA fees? Not just directed towards CB.

·        Lauren: We will talk to the student body and then vote on it next week. Also come to the budget meeting.

·        mike.jost@western.edu

·        Bouldering in the Valley bill: Haleigh

·        This is the 19th year in a row so it is a well known event in the area. We want to get new people involved, even people who have never climbed before. The time has changed to 4:00 (on bill it says 5:00). We have contacted many companies and have some local sponsorships and a few outside the valley. We are requesting money for a rope and a crash pad to use as prizes.

·        Noah: What kind of rope?

·        We are going to talk to Dave at Rock and Roll and see what we can get. We want to give a good rope.

·        Grace: How much is a rope?

·        Between $200 to $280 and we will get the price lowered about 40%.

·        Lauren: What would you do if we didn’t allocate you the money?

·        We are kind of banking on it. We just wouldn’t be able to get as good of prizes.

·        gunnisonclimbing@gmail.com

·        Payment for Program Council position: Each year it changes so we need to choose one and put it in the bylaws. Do we want to pay $200 or $250?

·        Angie: If it is $250, it is inconsistent with other positions so we should increase the office hours in the by laws.

·        Lauren: If we lower it to $200 then there would be more delegating of jobs.

·        Elijah: I added a couple more positions, a photographer and graphic designer and student entertainment researcher (facebook, campus tools to communicate with students to get their feedback). I put these in to help spread out responsibilities.

·        Grace: Did your work load decrease?

·        Elijah: Yes it did a little.

·        Chris motions to vote on $250 salary (currently it is being paid $200)

·        Travis: I think we should increase office hours to 5 per week

·        Austin motions to add one office hour and increase salary to $250 a month

·        Angie seconds it

·        Motion passes unanimously

XII. Action Items

  • YOU DA BOMB Award goes to…….Austin!
  • Design West: Sarah: Apartment complex- The biggest debate is over a kitchen or not.
  • Angie: having a kitchen creates a more expensive room but is less expensive than having a meal plan. Indoor parking space for bikes? Community kitchen? Thicker walls. Furnished or not? Both. Final presentation is Friday at 10am. Come to focus groups tomorrow in Aspinall Wilson Center.

XIII. Remarks for the Good of the Order

  • Senators meet downstairs and we will be taking your picture! And Press Committee meet as well.
  • There is a rumor that there will be no green house in the future campus planning and this is not true. I have the master plan in the SGA office, and it’s on the website.

XIV. Late Roll Call

  • Jesse, Richard, D’Andre, Brian

XV. Adjournment
