Facility Fee Proposal Results

WSC Students:

The results of the student vote on a facility fee are in: the student body passed the referendum by a vote of 413 to 401.  More than 40 percent of eligible students voted.

This is one of the most pivotal moments in Western’s 109-year history. The students’ approval of this fee demonstrates their commitment to investing in Western’s future. It also is gratifying to see the number of students who participated in the democratic process and learned first-hand the power of their voices through their votes.

Approval of the fee required a vote by the student body, as outlined in the Student Government Association (SGA) Constitution.

This fee will enable the college to immediately address critical construction needs and will provide an on-going revenue stream to address deferred maintenance projects. In addition, the fee will moderate the financial costs to students through need-based assistance provided by a financial aid fund.  Slated among the projects are new student apartments that will replace the outdated Shavano Complex, a recreation center / multi-use field house and building improvements. The passage of the fee also boosts Western’s chances for state-supported capital projects, such as the renovation of Quigley Hall and the library.

Construction of the new Shavano Complex could begin in summer 2011 with occupation by fall 2012, followed by the recreation center / multi-use field house.

Sincerely,

Jay Helman

More About Us

This website includes student clubs and Intramural Sports.

Student Government Association is responsible for the allocation of your student fees.

Please feel free to review all of the Bills, Grants, Constitution and Bylaws and give us your feedback.

This is an organization that is here to represent the Student Body and we appreciate all direct feedback and comments.

"Your voice will be heard!"

SGA is made up of representatives from academic disciplines and all other student organizations. SGA meets weekly to make decisions on most aspects of student participation in the life and operation of the College. Meetings are on Wedenesdays at 7:00 pm in the North Ballroom of the Colleg Center. All students are welcome!

SGA acts as the official voice of the Associated Student Body and protects the rights and privileges of the student body. Our student government is different than many schools because we represent the voice of the student body, we have control over our own student fees (Over $600,000).

As the SGA, we would like to better serve the students, and make sure that all students are involved with the decisions that we make. We want your input and your suggestions. So come to meetings on Wedensdays at 7:00 pm in the Ballroom, to be heard! If you can't make it to meetings, the SGA website is probably the best resource you'll find. If you have any questions, or are having a hard time getting aquainted with WSC and/or our organizations don't hesitate to contact me. We've got an open door policy, so come visit the office in the College Center.

If you have questions or comments, that you'd like to submit to me or Gary Pierson (gpierson@western.edu, 943.2049), please fill out this form. Any constructive comments, concerns or questions are always welcome, and we do take them seriously.
