Special Interest Clubs at Western

The Inter-Club Council is the governing board of clubs for the Student Government Association and acts as the official voice of clubs and organizations. It also oversees the allocation and distribution of all appropriated student fees to the clubs and organizations.

There are a variety of academic clubs and honors societies at Western.  Each club is housed under the academic department.

Active Minds

Promoting health and active minds on campus.

Amigos

To promote Latin American culture, and to establish positive feelings towards Latin Americans on campus and in the Gunnison community. This shall be accomplished through community service and educational cultural events. Most importantly, to provide an atmosphere where members, regardless of age, ethnicity, and gender, are welcome and encouraged to participate and support the club.

Asian Pacific Islanders Club

Promote cultures within Asian Pacific Islanders and educate ourselves, our peers and the community in order to obtain unity through diversity, by means of our events and meetings. To create a warm and welcoming environment for all peoples.

Black Student Alliance

Black Student Alliance's sole purpose is to educate and promote awareness to and through our members about our culture. Learning about "The life, the ongoing struggle, and the history" of our past, and current culture. In addition, to spread unity, diversity, and fellowship through our culture, to all cultures and to accept and embrace all walks of life in and around our campus. To continually stress the importance of unity and cultural education and involvement to the student body.

Bluebirds Women's Snowboarding Club

Bluebirds is a club for dedicated female snowboarders who are working towards a common goal of riding excellence and team companionship.

Campus Crusade for Christ (Ignite)

Campus Crusade for Christ or Ignite is a student lead ministry that wants to see the students at Western State know Jesus Christ as the man that died for their sins.

Cheerleading

The WSC Cheerleading team is a co-ed squad. We cheer for football games, and we promote school spirit and support all athletics at Western. Every member must have a good attitude, dedication, and motivation. We have come a long way in just a few years and we are striving to continue our success.

Christian Challenge

To challenge and train students to know, love, and glorify God, relying upon Him to raise up qualified disciplemakers who will spread the gospel of Jesus Christ from Western to the ends of the earth.

Climbing Club

Currently the climbing club, is a group of women and men that put a priority in the camaraderie of the activity. Each year the climbing club organizes the annual "Hartman Rocks Climber Cleanup" which occurs once a year every fall at our beloved Hartman Rocks. Every year we remove trash, clean up campsites and give Hartmans some much needed love. The climbing club attends a variety of outdoor climbing events, organizes their own events here in the Gunnison Valley, and travel to various climbing areas.

Club Sports

There are also a variety of ways to get involved with these sports. With the Club Sports program here at WSC a student athlete can enjoy the camaraderie of playing on a team and the thrill of competition that accompanies sporting events. Our teams compete against other colleges and depend mightily on the efforts of the team members. Our Club Sports program embraces both traditional sports and adventure sports. Competition is a part of all these teams and a passion for the sport is a prevailing sentiment.

Garden Club

To grow our own food in a sustainable environmentally friendly manner. Our hope is to create a community base of people who share in the values of the importance of organic foods. We also hope to bring awarenesss to the hidden costs of buying food that has been shipped in such as the fuel that has been used and to be more responsible for our impact on the planet.

The intramural sports program is available for those interested in competing in men's and women's leagues in basketball, flag football, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track and field, or co-ed softball and volleyball.

Mountain Rescue Team

The Western State Mountain Rescue Team through training involving Wilderness search tactics, high angle rope rescue, low angle rope rescue, avalanche rescue, winter rescue, and mountain safety education. Shall strive to provide exemplary mountain rescue services, to the county of Gunnison, the state of Colorado and anywhere mountain rescue services may be needed.

Mountaineer Media

Mountaineer Media is a student-run media production company funded by student government association funds generated by student fees.  This group of talented filmmakers and media enthusiasts exists to educate students from all majors and provide opportunities to create film and media productions. These productions may vary from film, to Youtube.com broadcasts, and pod-casts.

Native American Student Council

The Native American Student Council strives to provide and enhance educational experiences and opportunities for all WSC students, Faculty, Staff, and Gunnison community. In addition, we strive to provide a forum for students to find support, understanding, interest, and awareness of Native American culture. It is our goal that the Native American Student Council will have a positive impact on Western State College campus in achieving the aforementioned objectives.

Program Council

Program Council is a student-led group dedicated to enhancing the life of WSC students. By appropriately utilizing student fees, PC provides students with various activities and entertainment including movies, festivals, concerts, comedians, hypnotists, and a variety of other entertainment. Program Council also serves as a support system for other campus groups and clubs and for students who are trying to throw their own events.

Sex Positive at Western

Western State College of Colorado Sex Positive is a student led and faculty/staff advised group working to reduce sexual assault at Western, provide support to sexual assault victims, provide safe and positive sex messages to students and encourage dialogue on campus around responsible sexual relationships.

Spectrum- Gay and Straight Alliance

Spectrum is a school sponsored club for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Straight Alliance students. The club is also open to members of the surrounding Community. We are a relatively new club that is starting up again, so one of our main goals this year is recruiting more members. Spectrum is a great place to come and hang out with people that may be like you. It is a club that is free of judgement and a place of safety.

Sustainability Coalition

Western State College of Colorado is actively engaged in improving environmental awareness and resource efficiency through our campus climate commitment to achieve a 50 percent reduction in carbon emissions by 2035; our green building and renovation practices; our student-initiated sustainability grant program; and by providing outstanding opportunities in a variety of different academic programs, including environmental studies, to learn more about ourselves, our planet and the challenges of sustainability.
