Women's Rugby Crushed by Colorado College

Posted by Chris Martinez at Oct 20, 2009 08:00 AM |

The Western State women's rugby team was dealt a bone crushing loss October 18 by Colorado College in Colorado Springs. The game started out on a bad note for Western as Colorado College scored an unanswered 10 points in the first half. The game only got worse for Western as they went on to be shut out offensively while effectively failing to stop Colorado College's offensive production. The team's coach Dave Kendrick was contacted but refused to give the games final score to the press saying, "we stopped looking at the game in terms of score, but looked at the things we could improve upon."

Despite the landslide loss some players on Western's squad feel that the game went well. Team captain Soleil Smith noted that the second half was much better than the first half for Western."[During the second half] there was a lot more communication on the field than the first half. Most girls on our team played individual sports, like track, before they joined our team. So it takes them a while to remember that they are on a team. But once we come together they are awesome," Smith said.

The Women's rugby team holds their next home game on November 14 against Durango.
