What Students Have to Say About ALPS

  • “The ALPS Program helped me become more involved throughout the campus.”

  • “If I were not part of the ALPS Program, I would not be involved in events on campus as much.”

  • “ALPS Program gave me that extra incentive to go out and try new things.”

  • “I was able to connect with a lot of different people, which made the beginning of my freshman year a lot easier.”

  • “If I hadn’t been involved, I think getting involved would have been a lot more difficult. I wouldn’t have been pushed to join clubs and organizations and would have been at a loss for what to do with my time.”

  • “I have been involved with many different clubs and activities. If I had not received the scholarship I probably wouldn’t have been so involved.”

  • “I did like the idea of having to do so many hours per week of school involvement. It really forced me to do some things I wouldn’t regularly do, therefore broadened my horizon at Western State College.”

  • “My college experience was exciting because of the pressure to keep my scholarship. I tried out for Cabaret, something I would have done anyway, but besides that I joined an intramural football team because I knew the Cabaret would only partially cover the hours required. After that, I signed up to be a stage manager of the one-act plays and played intramural volleyball. I’m so happy that I participated in each of these activities because I made friends and felt I was needed. It gave me a sense of accomplishment to write down my hours and turn them in with pride.”

  • “Helped open my eyes to everything that I am able to do here at Western and in the town of Gunnison.

  • “The ALPS Program is a good way to get incoming students involved with activities on campus.”
