Week of Welcome 2011

Western State College of Colorado's Week of Welcome (WOW) is a time to welcome all new Western students, while also allowing you time to get acclimated prior to the start of classes on Monday, August 22. Through Western's WOW, you will be provided experiences to gain a better understanding of the College and its many involvement opportunities.

WSC Balloon

Free WOW Trips with Wilderness Pursuits

Get outside with Wilderness Pursuits on one of its free WOW trips: Whitewater Rafting, Rock Climbing or Mountain Biking. Register for one of these free trips in the Wilderness Pursuits Office, College Center 120. Trips fill fast and are on a first-come, first-served basis. Food, transportation, equipment and instruction will be provided for all trips (or you can bring your own gear). No experience is necessary. A $10 refundable deposit is due upon registration.

 

USA Pro Cycling Challenge and "Queen's Challenge"

This year's Week of Welcome coincides with the USA Pro Cycling Challenge, which will be cruising through Gunnison and Crested Butte/Mt. Crested Butte on Aug. 23 and 24. This is an epic race featuring Tour de France winners and other world-class cyclists. WOW has a special event to celebrate the race. The “Queen’s Challenge” is a scavenger hunt designed to take you to all the hot spots of this exciting event. You’ll visit various locations throughout Gunnison to win points during Stage 1 & Stage 2 of the race. More than $2000 in prizes will be given including a CBMR ski pass, townie bikes, Mountaineer Cash, WSC scholarships, and gift certificates to local businesses. Thanks to Extended Studies for helping to sponsor this event.


24-Hour Play Festival

If you're an actor, writer, director and/or backstage person, join Peak Productions in performing five original 10-minute plays that are written, directed and performed in just 24 hours! Show up at the Taylor Hall Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 26 or sign-up outside of the Peak Productions Office (Taylor Hall 120). The free performance will be at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27 in the Taylor Auditorium.
