New Student Orientation
Congratulations on your admission to Western State Colorado University!
2013 Orientation: August 21-August 25
Western will host one New Student Orientation session from August 21 to 25. Over the five days, students will rotate through four blocks of programming, which include: a Headwaters 100 service learning project; introduction to academic resources; “Life at Western” to learn about college life and the social issues that come with it; and Wilderness Pursuits trips or walking tours of the local communities. Activities also include programs for families and guests, a welcome barbecue and evening events hosted by student clubs and organizations. In addition, six Wilderness Based Orientation (WBO) trips will be offered through Wilderness Pursuits prior to orientation week.

Note: New Student Orientation is required for all first time freshman* and transfer students with 23 credits or less. Students are signed up automatically when you register for classes. We have a Transfer Orientation designed to meet a transfer students specific needs. This program is encouraged, though not required, for new students entering Western with 24 credits or more. Summer Wilderness Based Orientation: August 17-21
This optional program, taken in addition to New Student Orientation, gives you the ultimate unique experience! Join other new students on courses varying in time and difficulty that venture into the Colorado backcountry. Week of Welcome: August 28-September 1, 2012
Western State Colorado University's Week of Welcome (WOW) is a time to welcome all new WSCU students, while also allowing you time to get acclimated prior to the
start of classes on Tuesday, August 28; there will also be events going on throughout the first week of classes. Through Western's WOW, you will be provided experiences to gain a better understanding of the University and its many involvement opportunities. You also will have the opportunity to explore the Gunnison area through our Wilderness Pursuits Program. Learn More »
