Environmental Studies

The following scholarships are available to students majoring in Environmental Studies.

Kastellic, Joseph A. Scholarship
Mahaffey Environmental Studies Scholarship
Martin, Mike Memorial Scholarship
Nauman, James D. Environmental Studies Scholarship - Freshmen
Nauman, James D. Environmental Stewardship Scholarship

KASTELLIC, JOSEPH, A. SCHOLARSHIP

Available to:
Junior level or above, full-time students who have a major in an Environmental Studies, Geology, Environmental Biology or related fields. Preference given to student's with greater financial need, resident of CO Western Slope who have expressed a career interest in park operations and\or management, or a career in earth sciences. Minimum GPA of 3.0.
 
Provided by:
Barbara Kastellic and gift from others to honor Joseph, who was the first Superintendent of the Black Canyon National Monument from 1975-1984.

Amount:
Award depends on funds available. (Anticipated award $500.00)

Application:
Complete and submit Western's Common Scholarship Application.  Applicant should make sure to include within their short essay a description of his\her career goals.



MAHAFFEY ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES SCHOLARSHIP


Available to:
Students who have demonstrated community involvement with environmental solutions, academic excellence and a dedication to mountain environments which could encompass recreational activity, personal connection or service.

Jim and Dianne Mahaffey.

Award depends on funds available.

Selected by:
The Environmental Sudies Department faculty in consultation with the Director of Financial Aid.

MARTIN, MIKE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP


Available to:
Environmental Studies majors who have a GPA of 3.0 or above. Preference will be given to a resident of Crested Butte, Colorado. If no applicants meet this requirement, preference will be given to a resident of Gunnison, Colorado. If no applicants meet the criteria, applicants must be a resident of Colorado.

The Michael Martin Community Fund.

NAUMAN, JAMES D. ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES SCHOLARSHIP - FRESHMEN

Available to:
Must have applied and been admitted to Western State College and have a demonstrated interest in pursuing a degree in Environmental Studies.  Must be enrolled full-time. Preference given to students with financial need.

NAUMAN, JAMES D. ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP SCHOLARSHIP


Available to:
Full-time students majoring in a Environmental Studies with a minimum of 30 credits at WSC. Must have made a significant contribution towards environmental stewardship while at WSC. Students must demonstrate academic achievement and progress towards Environmental studies major.
