Sherryl Hall-Peterson
Vice President for Student Affairs & Dean of Students
A native of Wichita, Kansas, Sherryl Hall-Peterson was raised in Oklahoma and attended Oklahoma City University where she earned a B.A. in French and English. Later, she received an M.A. from Western in Communication Arts.
She initially joined the College as a Lecturer in Communication but has held numerous positions during her tenure. She has served as Interim Dean of Students, Affirmative Action Officer, Associate Vice President for Development and Public Affairs, Director of the Annual Fund and Executive Director of Alumni Affairs.
In her present role as Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students, she has responsibility for a broad spectrum of programs and activities having to do with the quality of student life at Western. In addition to being the campus Ombudsperson, she oversees Westerners in Transition, International Student Programs, Study Abroad, College Union/Campus Life, Student Government Association, Wilderness Pursuits/Fitness Center, Residence Life, Disability Services, Multicultural Center, Special Projects, Children's Center, Campus Health Center and Student Financial Services.
In addition to her College roles, she has been active in leadership roles at the community, state and national levels. She served as President of the Gunnison Watershed School District Board of Education for six years (was a member of the Board for 11 years); was Chair of the State Accountability Committee, a six-year appointment by Colorado Governors Lamm and Roemer; served as a member of the Convention Committee for both the Colorado and the National Association of School Boards; is a member of the American Association of University Women where she has served on several national, state and local boards and committees; and has held leadership positions in a number of local organizations including the Gunnison Country Chamber of Commerce, PEO and Friends of the Library.
Her husband Charles, operates the Charles A. Peterson Appraisal Firm. They have three children.
