The hub for the Student Services Center (SSC) is the College Union. Within the College Union several offices and departments are specifically designed to help students with their college career at Western State College of Colorado. The Offices of Residence Life, Career Services, Multicultural Center, International Student Programs/National and International Student Exchange, Campus Life, and the Learning Assistance Center are all located in the College Union.

Mission of the SSC

The Student Services Center will provide intentional programs, services, and interventions relevant to the developmental needs of college students. The SSC actively supports the academic mission of the College as well as its faculty and academic programs.

The Student Services Center is concerned about all students and wishes to help students succeed in their college career. If you know a student who is having difficulty while attending Western, please let us know. All information will remain confidential and can be anonymous.

Program/Services Areas:

Academic Success Initiatives

The JUMPSTART and Turning Points programs are designed to empower and help students who may be having academic difficulties while attending Western. The Learning Assistance Center offers services to students such as study skills, Student Success Seminars, and disability services. The SSC sponsors an Academic Improvement Workshop Series each semester that focuses on helping student improve academic management skills.

Academic Enrichment Programs

These programs help students engage with the community beyond Western including International Student Programs, National Student Exchange, and Study Abroad.

Campus Living

Learn about programs through the Office of Residence Life and Housing as well as the Living and Learning Centers. Student leadership positions including resident assistants, academic peer advisors, and peer mentors are administered through this department.

Career Planning Resources

The Career Services department has several online resources such as DISCOVER (career interest and values inventory) and VAULT (online clearinghouse for career resources) as well as career counseling for cover letters, resumes, internships, and interviewing. The annual Career Fair and job listings for on campus student employment are among some of the programs and services offered by this department.

Resources for New Students

These programs include New Student Orientation, Wilderness Based Orientation, and Westerners in Transition for non traditional students.

Student Involvement

These programs and services are offered to help WSC students become active members of the Western learning community. The Office of Campus Life serves as the resource center for programs such as clubs and organizations and intramural sports. Additionally, the Wilderness Pursuit Program, Escalante Fitness Center, and the Multicultural Center provide opportunities for students get connected on campus and in the Gunnison area.
