In April of 2000 the RMOTE Consortium received $3.5 million
from the U.S. Department of Education Technology Innovation
Challenge Grant to train K-12 teachers to implement technology
into their curriculum to improve student acheivement in six
southwestern rural school districts.
The project, entitled the Rural Mountain Organization of Technological
Enhancement II (RMOTE II), is headquartered at Western State
College in Gunnison, Colorado and includes school districts
in Gunnison County, Hinsdale County(Lake City), San Miguel
County (Ridgway), Ouray County, and Saguache County (Mountain
Valley and Moffat.)
The primary focus of this grant is to provide on-site (within
classrooms) and on-going staff development in technology integration
in five curricular areas: Language Arts, Math, Science, Social
Studies, and Foreign Languages.
All of the partners are contributing to the success of this
grant. 64% of the total cost for the project will be financed
with federal funds and 36% will be financed by the RMOTE partners.
