ACADEMIC PEER ADVISOR JOB DESCRIPTION
"The Academic Peer Advisor provides Academic assistance and referral. An APA is assigned to each floor in all the Traditional Living and Learning Communities.”
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Sophomore standing (30 credits) at the time employment begins.
- Full time student at Western State College of Colorado (12 credits).
- Participate in a 1-credit Residence Life Class held the latter half of the semester.
- A 3.0 cumulative grade point average at the time of application. Maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA and a semester GPA of 3.0 throughout employment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
STAFF TRAINING
- Arrive on campus approximately 1 week before the Fall semester begins to attend staff training.
- Attend monthly educational all campus in-service staff meetings.
- Attend scheduled contact meetings with their supervisors to discuss job performance.
- Attend weekly staff meetings.
- Attend other training as deemed necessary by their supervisors.
- Read, interpret, understand, and follow Residence Hall policies and the Academic Peer Advisor manual.
ACADEMIC DEVELOPMENT AND PROGRAMMING
- Regularly available for and capable of assisting students with concerns related to academics.
- Inform their supervisors of all academic concerns and needs in their area.
- Is knowledgeable about campus resources and their services to students, and functions as a source of information and referral.
- Initiate and organize academic based programs to meet the needs and interest of residents.
- Maintain a standard of personal conduct commensurate with responsibilities.
- Set an example in knowing and abiding by institutional policies.
- Other duties as assigned.
ADDITIONAL EMPLOYMENT, INTERNSHIPS,AND STUDENT TEACHING
- Additional employment is not to exceed 15 hours per week and must be approved by the Associate Director of Residence Life.
- Internships are considered off-campus employment and must be approved by the Associate Director of Residence Life. Student teaching is not allowed.
REMUNERATION
- Academic Peer Advisors are currently compensated $900 per semester.
