How to Transfer Credit

Students have two methods for transferring credit into Western. The process is a little different for new students and students who plan to take that have been readmitted. The latter case needs to be discussed with the transfer evaluator in Registration Services.

New (Incoming Students):

First time Western students need to have sealed official transcripts sent to the Admissions office for evaluation. Their address is:

Existing (Continuing Students):

For matriculated students, BEFORE taking classes elsewhere, the first step is to complete a Transfer Pre-Approval form. This form is also available in Taylor 201 at the Registration Services Office. This form will require that you obtain the signature of your advisor if you intend to take courses that will transfer back to meet the requirements of your major. It is strongly recommended that you complete this form prior to undertaking the coursework, if you know the school you plan to attend and the classes in which you intend to enroll.

If you plan to take a semester away from Western to take courses at another institution, we also suggest that you complete a Leave of Absence form. Students in Good Academic Standing are eligible to take up to a full academic year of leave.

A minimum grade of C- must be earned for a course to transfer (this minimum does not apply to Study Abroad and National Student Exchange programs). Pass/fail courses only transfer if a Pass grade has been received and the grade of Pass is verified as equivalent to a C- or above.
