I am a new student, how do I register for class?
New freshmen and new transfers will be mailed registration materials. Registration for new students is well under way so look over your materials thoroughly when you receive them and follow the enclosed instructions.
Students considering specific majors should refer to Departmental Recommendations for their first year of study to best streamline their progress towards obtaining a degree in a particular field within four years.
I plan on graduating soon, what do I need to do?
Graduation Requirement Audit (grad update)
First, you must submit academic major and General Education evaluation forms (see instructions) through your advisor to Registration Services during the semester in which you expect to earn your 89th credit hour. The Registrar reviews the evaluation forms and updates you and your advisor on requirements not yet completed.
Application for the Degree
Secondly, you are required to file an Application for the Bachelor Degree card in the Registration Services office during the first two weeks of the semester in which you expect to complete all degree requirements.
Commencement
Lastly, if you have completed all requirements for graduation, you are encouraged to participate in commencement. Students must submit requests to be included in the commencement ceremony to Registration Services the first two weeks of the semester in which commencement is held. How do I get a transcript?
To comply with the Federal Privacy Law, all transcript requests (both official and unofficial) must be made in writing by the student. Download a printable transcript request form. All written requests must include the following information:
Current legal name and all previous names.
Student Number.
Date of Birth.
Contact address and phone number.
Approximate dates of attendance and graduation date (if applicable).
Address you want the transcripts mailed to.
Your written signature (authorization to release your academic record).
Payment Information
(indicate whether you are paying with personal check or credit card on your request; if you are paying with a credit card you can include your credit card information on the request or call us with your credit card number)
There is a $4 charge per official transcript. An official transcript cannot be faxed. Official transcripts can be released to you or mailed to you or whomever you request.
Unofficial transcripts are free of charge. An unofficial transcript may be released to you or faxed or mailed to you or whomever you request.

How do I change my address?
Registration Services maintains students' local and permanent addresses. You can change your address by filling out a Change of Address form at Registration Services, Taylor Hall 201, or email your local and or permanent address change to us. Include your full name, student number and which address you want to update.
I need an enrollment verification for my insurance company, what do I do?
Download an enrollment verification form (pdf). You can fill out the form and fax it to Registration Services at (970) 943-2212.
We can fax or mail the verification to you or your insurance company.
How do I get my grades?
Grades can be accessed through your WOL (Western On-Line)account. Logon to WOL and go to "School Services," "Student Services and Financial Aid," "Student Records," then "Final Grades."
Where do I register?
Register through your WOL account at any computer with internet access. You can continue to adjust your schedule (add/drop) anytime until the published add/drop deadlines. You will need your ARC (Advising Registration Code) from your advisor to register for Fall and Spring classes.
When do I register?
You can check your registration status, including the time you register, by visiting your WOL account. Logon to WOL and go to "School Services," "Student Services and Financial Aid," "Registration," and finally "Check Your Registration Status."
How do I drop a class? How do I withdraw from a class? What's the difference?
You can drop a class through your WOL account during the first 15% of the class meetings. For deadlines, see the Schedule Adjustment table.
A dropped class doesn't show up on your transcript and doesn't impact your GPA.
After the drop period, and until two-thirds of the class is complete, you can withdraw from a class with approval from the instructor and your advisor. You must complete the Course Withdrawal form (located in Registration Services, department offices, or the Union) and return it to the Registration Services Office, Taylor Hall 201, for processing. For deadlines, see the Schedule Adjustment table.
A withdrawn class will receive a grade of "W," but the grade doesn't impact your GPA.
How do I get a copy of my schedule?
You may check your schedule on-line anytime, anywhere. Remember to check/print a copy of your schedule to assure its accuracy before classes begin and before major deadlines.
To view your schedule, logon to your WOL account and go to "School Services" "Student Services and Financial Aid," then"Registration." "Student Schedule by Day and Time," gives you a daily schedule "Student Detail Schedule" will list instructors.
Who is my advisor?
You may look up your advisor through your WOL account. Logon to WOL and go to "School Services," "Student Services and Financial Aid," "Registration," and finally "Check Your Registration Status." One way to meet with your advisor is to contact your advisor during his/her faculty office hours.
How do I change my major or advisor?
Pick up a "Change of Major/Advisor" form in the Registration Services office, Taylor 201, or download a printable version of the "Change of Major/Advisor" form (Adobe pdf). Have your correct advisor sign the form (if you are changing majors, get a new advisor in the new major) and return the form to the Registration Services office.
What do I do if a class is closed?
If a class is closed, or requires instructor permission, you need to contact the instructor for online permission. Once the instructor gives you online permission, you can add the class through your WOL account.
How do I get credits to transfer?
If you are a continuing student at Western and take college classes at another institution, or if you want to return to Western after taking classes at another institution, you need to have official transcripts sent to Western to be evaluated.

If you know in advance you will take credits at another institution, you can fill out a transfer pre-approval form (Adobe pdf) and be certain how the credits will transfer.
If I am a former student, what do I do to come back to Western?
If you left Western or took some time off and wish to return, you need to fill out an application for readmission unless you were granted a formal Leave of Absence. Once you are readmitted, registration materials will be sent to you. If you took classes at another institution during your absence from Western, you must request official transcripts be sent to Registration Services (see above, How do I get credits to transfer?).
How can my parents get access to my grades?
In accordance with federal law, no one can access your academic record without written consent from you (the student). If you want your parents (or other interested parties) to have access to your grades, you must fill out the Authorization for Release of Academic Information form and return to the Registration Services office, Taylor 201.
