Enhance Your Orientation with Wilderness Based Orientation (WBO)
The purpose of WBO is to provide an exciting alternative to the start of your career at Western State College of Colorado. All WBO courses are field-based expeditions where you will have the opportunity to establish your bearings in this time of transition.
Who can attend?
If you are an incoming first year or transfer student, motivated for an adventure in the outdoors and in good health, then WBO is for you! No prior experience is required for the courses, all you need is to be prepared for the challenge.
Note: The WBO courses are offered as supplemental programs to New Student Orientation, not as a substitute.
What types of courses are offered?
There are eight course offerings for 2008. The courses range in length, difficulty and disciplines. All courses are expedition-based with trained, Wilderness First Responder-certified instructors. The courses include one of the following disciplines: Whitewater Rafting, Rock Climbing, Backpacking, Mountaineering, Whitewater Kayaking, Sea-Kayaking, or Camping
What do I need to bring?
You will need to provide your own clothing and basic outdoor gear (i.e. sleeping bag, backpack, boots, etc). All the technical equipment essential for your course will be provided. For more information and a detailed equipment list, please visit western.edu/wp/wbo.
How do I sign-up?
Simply fill out the appropriate information along with your New Student Orientation Reservation Form! Remember – all courses are on a first-come, first-served basis, so do not hesitate.
