WSC Savage Library to Host Civil War Event with Musician Rex Rideout, Oct. 17
Oct. 5, 2009 -- The Leslie J. Savage Library at Western State College will host The Civil War Remembered in Song performed by music historian Rex Rideout at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, the library.
Playing period instruments, Rideout will perform songs of the Civil War period and will discuss the stories behind the songs. Rideout, a long-time student of the music and songs of the 19th-century American West, has been performing for more than 25 years at museums and historic sites across the West. His music has been heard on many films for the National Park Service, the Denver Art Museum and CBS Sunday Morning.
This event is part of the One Book, One Valley program, which celebrates reading with events sponsored by the Gunnison Country Libraries (Savage Library, Western State College; Gunnison County Library District; Gunnison High School Library; and Gunnison Community School Library).
