Western State Brass Band to perform Friday June 30

The Western State Colorado University Brass Band will perform on Friday, June 30th in the John and Georgie Kincaid Concert Hall at 7:00 p.m.  The public is invited to attend and admission is free.

The Friday evening concert will be the culmination of the group’s 43rd annual week-long rehearsal sequence.

Providing the Gunnison Valley with 43 years of summer concerts featuring traditional brass band music, the group draws players from all over the country. More than 50 participants will rehearse for more than 26 hours over the course of five days to produce a variety of music.

The concert will be under the direction of the Western's Director of Bands Michael Flynn, Ph.D., as well as the conducting talents of Western Brass Band Emeritus conductor, Steve Asheim and guest conductor Chevy Chevilard.

The program will feature “Festive Overture,” and music from “Les Mis” and the “Children of Sanchez.” The second half of the program will be a tribute to Mr. John Kincaid, featuring works such as the “Kincaid’s Rhapsody,” “It is Well With My Soul”and the “Land of the Long White Cloud,” among others.
