New Scholarships for Poetry Students

Several years ago a private donor made a standing challenge grant to Western's Poetry Concentration: if we could raise $10,000 / yr. for scholarships, this donor's family foundation would consider matching it each year. This year, thanks to the advocacy and generosity of a Western trustee, we have received a $5,000 grant from the Temple Hoyne Buell Foundation, which this trustee indicates will be repeated next year. The donor will match this grant for both years.

This means we have secured a scholarship grant for a new poetry MFA student entering in summer 2015 that is the equivalent of 50% for two years ($10,000/yr. for two years). We are prepared for applicants to this scholarship.

If you are interested in meeting the other half of the private donor's challenge grant ($5,000/yr. for two years), feel free to be directly in touch with David J. Rothman, the Poetry Concentration Director and Director of the Graduate Program in Creative Writing, at
