Marilyn Laverty New Small Business Development Center Director
Oct. 31, 2008 -- The Small Business Development Center (SBDC), based here at Western State College, has named Marilyn Laverty the new director. Laverty is a third generation Coloradoan that calls herself, "a business woman who enjoys supporting business owners to achieve their goals."

And she's done her fair share of business, from Crested Butte to Russia. Laverty worked for an accounting firm in Crested Butte; one that she credits giving her a start in that line of work. This start led to a company now known as Deloitte where she earned her CPA in audit.
Later, Laverty worked as the vice president of accounting and operations for CoBank, a multi-billion dollar agri-business lending organization. In 1996 Laverty started her own firm Teams on Target Inc., which is dedicated to increasing business's organizational capacity. The firm focuses on leadership, team building and change management.
Now at the SBDC, Laverty is ready to put her decades of experience to use for the businesses in the area. The SBDC serves the businesses in the counties of Gunnison, Montrose, Delta, Ouray, San Miguel, Hinsdale, Chaffee and Lake. The SBDC offers free consulting services through a team of experts including: buying, selling, growing, streamlining, marketing, inventory, cash-flow, startup, and applying for business loans. The team also assists non-profits and inventors and offers courses for start-ups on how to write your profitable business plan.
