(July 12, 2012) - Western State College Foundation completed a record-breaking fiscal year after receiving $6.8 million in charitable gifts for 2011-12. The gift receipts marked the highest one-year total in the foundation’s history.

(June 25, 2012) - Dave Wiens (’90), an inductee of the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame and a six-time winner of the Leadville Trail 100 Mountain Bike Race, will return to Western State College of Colorado/Western State Colorado University as the first Mountain Sports Team Director. He will oversee the club sport programs in cycling and skiing.
(June 21, 2012) Western State College/Western State Colorado University Professor Emeritus of Music John Kincaid has been recognized by the American Bandmasters Association with the E.F. Goldman Citation.
Western State College of Colorado president Jay Helman has appointed Craig Wesley as interim vice president of enrollment. Scheduled to begin his duties at Western on July 9, Wesley will lead a division that includes the offices of admissions and financial aid.
Western State College will officially become Western State Colorado University this fall, following the Monday signing of a name-change bill, by Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper. The bill - HB 1331 - was sponsored by Representative J. Paul Brown (R-House District 59) and Senator Gail Schwartz (D-Senate District 5).
