Dec. 10, 2009 -- The classic holiday question is, “What do you give the person who has everything?” A spin on that question is, “What do you give a couple who has given everything?” Local friends and Western State College of Colorado (WSC) leaders recently asked that question in regards to how to honor John and Lois Roberts for their lifetime of generosity to the college and Gunnison Valley community. Nov. 23, 2009 -- All five scoring runners for the Western State men's team earned All-America honors as the Mountaineers finished as the national runner-up for the third consecutive season at the NCAA Division II National Cross Country Championships held Nov. 21 at the Southern Indiana cross country course.

Nov. 18. 2009 -- Last spring, Steve Westbay, Gunnison’s director of community development, wanted to reach out to Western State College for assistance in developing a management plan for the city's 460-acre Van Tuyl Ranch, located on the north and western flanks of town, under the afternoon shadow of the Palisades rock formation. So he started knocking on some doors.
