The William E. Dorgan Memorial Math Scholarship
Students may apply for this award through the Department of Mathematics/Computer Information Science Department. The Dorgan Scholarship provides up to full tuition assistance (not including fees) to a Western State student who is a Colorado resident and has declared a major in mathematics.
The scholarship honors William Dorgan, a long time Mathematics professor at Western State College. It was established by Professor Dorgan's daughter, Roberta Dorgan Beckman and her husband Dennis.
Professor Dorgan came to Western in 1951, joining the faculty as an Assistant Professor. He taught at Western for thirty years, retiring as a full professor in 1980.
College President Dr. Harry Peterson said "The Dorgan Scholarship is a great tribute to him for his outstanding service to Western. There are many deserving students whose education will be made possible through this generous gift."
Applicants for the scholarship must:
- be a full-time student.
- have declared a mathematics major.
- maintain academic eligibility with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
Interested individuals should complete and return the Standard Scholarship Application from the Office of Financial Aid by April 1 of each year.
