Submissions
Currently, we are ONLY accepting submissions via regular mail. Address the specific genre editor and mail to: Marginalia, CALL Dept., Taylor 115, Gunnison, CO 81231. Please be PATIENT. We have a terrible backlog at the moment, which we hope to tackle during the summer months. We do accept simultaneous submissions this should ease the burden of waiting.
Marginalia reads all year, though response time may be longer in the summer. We do not accept previously published work. Work will be considered for both Marginalia and Marginalia Online. Marginalia publishes fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, critical essays, and book reviews. We encourage work that transgresses generic boundaries, such as short shorts and prose poems. We seek synchronic and diachronic poetry that (re)invigorates both open and closed forms.
Send no more than 3-5 poems or 1 prose piece (short story, creative nonfiction, essay, book review). Keep your cover letter brief. Submissions must include name, address, and e-mail. There is no word limit, though a longer piece must necessarily be exceptional for Marginalia to accept it. We acquire first serial rights only. Payment is in contributor’s copies. Like many literary magazines, Marginalia's editors work for free. While the editors try to respond to submissions within 6 months, we are not always able to do so. Please be patient. Do not contact us regarding the status of your submission until six months pass.
Book Reviews
Marginalia seeks book reviews for out-of-print books. One of our missions is to resurrect literary work that deserves to be reissued, work that currently exists in the margins. We also seek book reviews for untranslated work never before published in the United States or published work that deserves more attention.
