~Come enjoy the music of Zimbabwe this Thursday~
& WSCU music students present
“Marimba & Mbira from Zimbabwe”
Thursday, April 4 @ 7:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Quigley Recital Hall
The WSCU Music Department invites you to enjoy the music of Zimbabwe at this free recital as Eric Miller shares his expertise and the WSCU music students share what they’ve learned in this unique two-week residency focusing on improvisation.
Eric Miller has shared the stage with artists such as Oliver Mutukudzi,
Chris Berry & Pangaea, John Fishman, March Fourth Marching Band, members of
String Cheese Incident, Matemai & Simboti, Bongo Love, Boka Marimba, the
Physical Hearts, Eric John Kaiser, and many others.
His first exposure to Zimbwean-style music was at a show in 1996, dancing the night away. Eight months later, he auditioned for the band. He played with Boka Marimba for 5 years, then created the Supadupa Marimba Bros and Pachi Pamwe.
From 2006-2008, Eric toured the world with Thomas Mapfumo & the Blacks Unlimited. He has spent many months in Africa, teaches at Zimfest and Mabina, annual Zimbabwean music camps, and teaches and performs in Portland, Oregon.
Thank you Dr. John Wacker, WSCU Music Dept. Chair, for the funding and to Artists-in-Residence for organizing to bring this talented guest artist to Gunnison.
