The Western State College Foundation Board of Directors
The Officers
Donald “Chip” Creager (’85) is the President of the Western State College Foundation Board of Directors. Chip owns Creager Mercantile, a supplier to convenience stores, liquor stores, and gift shops. Creager Mercantile's products include candy, beverages, groceries, medicines, and tobacco. He is a past president of the Kiwanis Club of the Denver Tech Center, and a monthly volunteer at Marilee Center. He has been the lead advocate for Kiwanis at Marilee center for seven years. He is also the past president of The Colorado Association of Distributors. Chip enjoys golf and skiing with his wife, Robin, and their sons, Max and Andy.
Ethel Rice is the Vice President for the Board of Directors. Retired Technical Services and Special Collections Librarian for Western, is a 1963 graduate. She earned her Masters of Library Science in 1965 at the University of Washington. Ethel served as a librarian at the WSC Savage Library for 36 years, retiring in 2001. She now does volunteer work in Gunnison.
Donna Faulkner is Secretary for the Board of Directors and a 1968 graduate. Donna met her husband, Doug, at Western. Following graduation, they taught in Georgia, Arizona, and eventually at Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma, where Donna earned her M.Ed. In 1978, Doug and Donna started Faulkner Corporation, an oil and gas company and a related drilling company, where Donna has been comptroller for the past twenty years. While they continue to live and work in Oklahoma, the Faulkners consider their primary home to be Crawford, CO, where they enjoy raising and riding horses.
Donald (Don) W. Prosser (’73) currently serves Treasurer for the Board. He is a Certified Public Accountant and entrepreneur in the Denver area. He is the CFO of an American Stock Exchange Company, VCG Holding Corporation, and still has a small CPA practice. Don has very fond memories of Western, and visits frequently, often bringing 15+ alumni friends back for Homecoming. Don was recently married to Donna, and enjoys travel and golf.
The Board
Craig Haase is a retired senior executive and director of Franco-Nevada Mining Corporation and its successor, Newmont Mining Corporation, the world’s largest gold company. Prior to his corporate career, Craig practiced commercial law and litigation in Reno, Nevada for nearly 20 years. Craig and his wife, Charlotte, divide their time between their home in Reno and their ranch (Eagle Ridge Ranch) in Ohio Creek Valley just north of Gunnison.
Roy Hood is a 1966 graduate, earning his MBA from NYU. Roy started RIMCO Production Company, Inc., a private oil and gas company, which he sold in April, 2005. Roy and his wife, Doris, have homes in Galveston, TX, and Granby, CT. Roy is an avid sailor.
Stuart (Stu) Kaplan, a 1970 Western graduate, also earned his teaching certificate from WSC in 1972. Stu went on to become a high school teacher, coach and administrator. Stu became Western’s Coordinator of Student Activities and later Director of Admissions from 1981-84. Stu is now President of Makuta Technics, Inc., a precision micromolding company. He is an active volunteer for both school and industry related organizations. Stu and his wife, Masako, have two children and live in Columbus, Indiana.
David R. McEntire, a Business Grad, ’80, is President of Amstar Homes, in Las Vegas, NV. David joined the Foundation Board because of his affection for and devotion to Western, and his desire to “make good things happen” for his alma mater. David’s business expertise and entrepreneurial spirit are assets to the Board. David enjoys visiting Gunnison more frequently for quarterly board meetings, allowing him to enjoy his ranch up Ohio Creek more frequently.
Jim Musgrave, a 1964 graduate and formerly from Colorado, resides in Scottsdale, Arizona, where he is involved in real estate. A long-time supporter of Western, Jim strongly believes in the continued high quality of education and athletics to promote the achievement of future excellence and pride of accomplishment.
David McCay and his wife, Rhonda, live in Red Mountain Ranch in Crested Butte. David has a professional background in pharmaceuticals, and has a foundation dedicated to World Peace (with an emphasis on Ireland).
Ken Moffitt, a longtime friend of Western, is a retired executive of Ingersoll-Rand Company after 42 years. He is former Vice President and General Manager of the Rotary Drill Division. Ken has experience working with College and University Foundations, serving on other higher education boards. He is also a Crested Butte Music Festival Board member and former Board President. Ken and his wife, Barbara, divide their time between Crested Butte and Scottsdale.
Steve Reynolds graduated from Western in 1978 with a degree in Business and Geology. He currently serves as Co-Owner and Vice President of Infinity Oil & Gas, Inc. Steve is former Treasurer and holds or has held various other positions of the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists. Steve and his wife, Paula, currently reside in Denver.
Steve Trippe is a 1977 Graduate who has divided his career between various segments of the Oil & Gas Industry and Real Estate Development. Steve is Vice President of CIMA Energy, LTD., an oil & gas marketing firm, Managing Member of Longhorn Properties, L.L.C., an oil and gas exploration limited liability company which originates and develops exploration projects throughout the United States. Steve also serves the Michigan Oil & Gas Association on the Board of Directors. In addition, Steve is President of Four S’s, Inc. which develops commercial and residential real estate in Florida, Michigan, Colorado (including numerous projects with Foundation President Gary Garland) and Oklahoma. Steve and his wife Sarah (WSC 77’) have to sons, Spencer & Samuel. The Trippe’s spend their time between their homes in Traverse City, Michigan and Key West, Florida.
Malte VonMatthiessen moved to the Gunnison Valley with his wife, Dr. Pam VonMatthiessen, several years ago. Malte is semi-retired. He is the past chair of the Wright State University Foundation Board, and is the past CEO and now chairman of YSI Incorporated, an employee-owned company in Ohio that develops applications for collecting, monitoring and assessing the physical and biochemical properties in water, for medical, aerospace and industrial purposes, all of which promote an ecologically sustainable habitat. Malte just completed his service on the Board of AGB (Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges).
Jyl Voss (’76) is an OB/GYN in Denver, CO. She grew up in Kansas, but has strong ties to the Valley, as her father, Milt Voss, still lives here. She enjoys active recreation and travel. She is one of Western’s Portrait of Excellence honorees
