Research Interests

My research area includes studies in microbiology, molecular genetics of procaryotic gene expression and DNA replication.

I direct student research in the molecular genetics of a variety of microbes including fungi, bacteria and their viruses. When not in my office, I can often be found fly-fishing on the banks of local streams and rivers.

Student Research Projects Supervised

  • Enrichment and analysis of phophodiesterase I from Phaseolus vulgaris beans. Jeremy Curry, Matthew Skwiot,
    Richard Jagger, and Peter Gauss.
  • DNA sequencing of bacteriophage T4 gene C. Christopher Doucette, Marilyn Bagley, and Peter Gauss.
  • Overexpression of the uvsW gene of Bacteriophage T4. Nicholas Radovich and Peter Gauss
  • The role of the genetic element e14 in bacteriophage T4 growth. Jamie Haggard and Peter Gauss.
  • Identification and characterization of gene C in bacteriophage T4. Brian Thompson and Peter Gauss.
  • Functional characterization of the uvs W gene of bacteriophage T4. Demetrius Gravis and Peter Gauss.
  • Development of molecular techniques to study the distribution of the Whirling Disease parasite Myxobolus cerebralis, in the Gunnison Basin. Peter Gauss, Patrick Magee and Joe Curtis.
