Brief biography: Dr. Wieseman has been a faculty member in teacher education at the Western State College of Colorado (WSC), a public institution with a well respected reputation in teacher preparation in the state of Colorado, and member of tertiary education in science education since 1994. She also mentors Ed.D. students in a K-12 educational leadership program for Jones International University, Denver, Colorado. As a teacher educator and science teacher educator, she emphasizes mentoring preservice teachers to be and become change agents and classroom leaders. She also promotes teacher professional development focused on inquiry learning, problem based learning, and pedagogies supporting English language learners’ academic language development. As a scholar, she has secured and administered grant projects totaling $203, 973 in the field of science education, as well as served as staff on other grant projects in the fields of technology integration and general teacher education. Her research interests have encompassed women’s experiences in leadership in science education, webcamera use in classrooms to support student learning, mentoring using interactive video conferencing technologies, electronic portfolios to demonstrate teacher qualifications and professional growth, learning agreements as a tool for empowerment, collaborative mentoring for inservice and preservice teacher learning, interdisciplinary curriculum for building holistic understanding, and teachers’ personal theories of standards-based science education reform. She has 22 publications, including referred journals, chapters in books, and books. She is currently co-editing a book with Dr. Molly H. Weinburgh entitled Women's Experiences in Leadership in K-16 Science Education Communities: Becoming and Being (anticipated publication date by summer 2009). She has presented 62 papers and workshop/panel presentations at international, national, and regional level conferences; and has delivered at least 15 invited presentations at national conferences, WSC and school districts. Her professional affiliations have been with organizations, including: National Association for Research in Science Teaching (NARST), Association for Science Teacher Education (ASTE), Project Kaleidoscope, Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, American Educational Research Association, National Science Teachers Association, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and Association of Teacher Educators. In ASTE, she has served as a conference co-chair and liaison to the ASTE Board of Directors for a Women In Science Education group. In the same organization she has been a member of Communications and Technology committees. For the last several years she has been a member of Project Kaleidoscope (PKAL), an alliance advocating for the transformation and improvement of undergraduate programs in the sciences, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and currently focusing on leadership capacity development in STEM education.

She completed a Ph.D. in science education at the University of Georgia, working with leaders in the field such as Drs. Mike Padilla, Deborah Tippins, Tom Koballa, David Jackson, Mary Atwater, to name a few. Whilst a doctoral student, she served on NARST's International Committee and participated in a study of leadership in science education. Whilst completing her ph.D. studies she taught elementary sciences in grades kindergarten-2 part-time, cofacilitated K-12 teacher professional development programs in the sciences, and served on the evaluation team of an NSF-funded state-wide systemic initiative.

Prior to entry into tertiary education she taught middle school (grades 6-8 sciences) in the United States and in Belgium. She has also worked in the fields of nutrition education, environmental education, adult education (English as a second language), and intercultural exchange.
