Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer - Poetry Reading

Colorado poet Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer will be reading her poetry @ Your Savage Library on Thursday, January 23, 7pm.

Why would anyone go to a poetry reading? “When I go, I often find that there are many invitations to fall more deeply in love with the world and chances to laugh at myself,” says poet Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer. “Poetry performance is kind of like a comedy show for the soul—you find yourself laughing, or crying, because you recognize yourself.” Trommer, who has written a poem a day for nine years, will read from several of her collections and new poems, too. She interweaves song and story with poems that take on daily life—from raising children to learning a new language to shoveling snow. She even converses with an ancient Sufi mystic at the beach.  As the editor of the Vail Daily writes, “Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer has the touch to make even such a crusty scoffer as me love poetry—as long as she’s the author. … I generally hate poetry and I mean hate. But her words caught me by total surprise. … Positively Confucian.”

Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer lives in Southwest Colorado, where she served as San Miguel County’s first poet laureate and directed the Telluride Writers Guild for 10 years. She teaches poetry for Think 360, The Aesthetic Education Institute of Colorado, Ah Haa School for the Arts, Weehawken Arts, and Camp Coca Cola. Her poetry has appeared in O Magazine, on A Prairie Home Companion, in back alleys and in her children’s lunchboxes. Her poetry collections include The Less I Hold, The Miracle Already Happening: Everyday life with Rumi, Intimate Landscape and Holding Three Things at Once (Colorado Book Award finalist). She performs with Telluride’s seven-woman a cappella group, Heartbeat, and sings nightly for her children.

Rosemerry has authored and edited thirteen books and is widely anthologized.

For seven years, she has written a poem a day, and every day she reads many more than that. Favorite one-word mantra: Adjust. Visit her at <>

Rosemerry’s visit is sponsored by WordHorde, the campus literary group.
