The job requires 20 hours of work per week. The position starts in mid-June and runs through mid-September. The main responsibilities of the Land Trust intern will be to work with the stewardship chairman, the director, and the stewardship committee to monitor and care for Land Trust properties and conservation easements and assist the staff with certain administrative duties and special events. The following is a list of tasks and projects that the intern will be involved with over the summer:
Work with the stewardship committee to help coordinate the Peanut Mine Reclamation.
Work with the stewardship committee and chairman to monitor Land Trust protected lands.
-
Assist the stewardship committee in developing an inventory of plant species on Land Trust properties, to determine the dominant native and non-native plant species.
-
Assist with maintenance of public access trails and properties, including mending fences, moving benches, putting up signs, etc.
Assist in noxious weed management on Land Trust properties.
-
Help coordinate summer workdays and special projects for the stewardship committee.
Work with the stewardship chair and volunteer coordinator to organize volunteers for these work sessions.
Create and maintain a log of each property, which documents monitoring efforts.
Special Events Intern
The CBLT Special Events Internship (10 hours/week) is available to an interested student who would like to help coordinate and run our special events throughout the summer, mid-June thru August. We have several events, which are very different in style. For example, we have an information booth at the Wildflower Festival and at the Arts Fair to educate the public, encourage membership and sell our t-shirts. The Land Trust has many other exciting events lined up for this summer, including: a picnic on the Lower Loop, a fishing tournament, a triathlon, weekly fieldtrips in coordination with the Headwaters Nature Center, cocktail parties, and much more!
Although our intern may not participate in each and every event, we feel that this is a great opportunity for a student to become involved in the planning process and event coordination that is necessary to be successful and have fun. This intern will probably have a lot of contact with the public as a representative for the CBLT. We expect that our intern will help out behind the scenes as well as in the action on our event days.
