Wilderness Pursuits provides fun, low-cost, and professional-quality co-curricular outdoor expeditions and resources for the students of Western State Colorado University. Wilderness Pursuits trips are led by students and designed to meet the needs of a broad range of abilities and interests, while developing outdoor skills and fostering community, citizenry, environmental stewardship and healthy living.
Wilderness Pursuits is home to low cost Gear Rentals, a self-serve Tune/Bike Shop (and we host FREE CLINICS to help you get the most out of our space), the Terbush Memorial Summit, Wilderness Based Orientation, and many of our members are active participants on the Mountain Rescue Team.
WP is an equal opportunity service provider operating under BLM and USFS Special Use Permits in Colorado and Utah.
From Ice Climbing and Mountaineering to Backcountry Skiing and Backpacking, WP Instructors will help you make the most of the outdoors in the Gunnison Valley... and beyond. Check out our student-made videos about our student-led trips and make sure to sign up early for 2015/16 trips!
Backpacking forms the heart of our Wilderness Based Orientation and Mid-Fall Break trips. Spencer Schenk-Wasson's video explores why Backpacking can be more than just a walk in the woods:
While winter is a few months away, WP always wants to make sure Western students understand the risks associated with travel in avalanche terrain- it can snow almost any time of year here!! Tucker Cocchiarella's video will get you stoked about our Intro to Backcountry Trips:
