Financially needy students from the Western Slope of Colorado. Parent(s) must be alumni of Western State College and the student must have demonstrated academic success.

A bequest by Mary Florence Wright of Delta, Colorado, who was a graduate of Western State College in 1918.

Residents of Montrose, Delta or Ouray counties in the State of Colorado with a minimum of 30 credit hours.

BOETTCHER OPPORTUNITY AWARD

Available to:
Full-time under-represented students at Western.  Please refer to the definition for 'under-represented students' on the main scholarship page.  Students must be Colorado residents; sophomore, junior or senior standing at WSC with a 3.0 GPA in previous academic work.
 
Provided by:
Boettcher Foundation.
 
Amount:
Five $3,000 scholarships to be awarded.

CAPLAN, GERALD SCHOLARSHIP

Available to:
Graduates of small public Colorado high schools (with a three-year graduating class size of 100 graduates or less). Preference given to minority students with financial need.  Preference given to students who are the first in their families to attend college.

DOLEZAL, GARY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Available to:
Men and women from high school seniors to college seniors. Must have been involved in scouting program and attained rank of First Class Scout; must be a graduate of a Western Slope high school. Gunnison High School graduates who meet the criteria will be given first preference.
 
Provided by:
Family to perpetuate the memory of Gary Dolezal, who was an example of scouting, citizenship, and scholarship.

DORRICOTT, HERBERT J. MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Available to:
Full-time, Colorado residents who have obtained at least junior status (60+ credit hours). Must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.

Full-time female Business, Accounting or Economics majors, who are Colorado residents. Recipients must maintain a GPA of 3.2 or better and have recipient-year class standing of sophomore through senior. Students must have financial need.

LEROUX FAMILY TRUST SCHOLARSHIP

Available to:
Colorado residents with a 3.0 GPA who show financial need.  Preference given to graduates of West Grand High School (Kremmling, CO) followed by graduates of other Western Colorado high schools.

LIAISON COUNCIL SCHOLARSHIPS


Available to:
A child or spouse of a permanent, full-time WSC classified employee. Employee must be permanent and full-time at the time of spouse's or child's scholarship application and must have been employed as a permanent and full-time employee for at least one year preceding child's or spouse's application. Must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 and have a minimum of the same in their prior academic work.

Complete and submit a letter of application verifying their eligibility along with an unofficial transcript to the Chair, WSC Liaison Council.

MOHAB FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

Available to:
Colorado residents who have been accepted for admission with a class status of sophomore or above. Must be a full-time student and maintain a 2.75 GPA; demonstrate and verify financial need.
 
Provided by:
The Mohab Foundation, which is a group of former Western State College students who have continued their friendship after leaving Western in the late 1970's and '80's.
 
Amount:

ORAHOOD, ERNEST-OTERO J.C. & WESTERN STATE COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP

Available to:
Otero Jr. College graduates transferring to Western State. Must be a full-time student and have financial need, with a minimum of 30 credit hours. Math or Science majors with a 3.0 or higher preferred but not required.
 
Provided by:
Ernest Orahood who attended Western State College from 1936-1940, on very limited resources. This scholarship is made in appreciation of his experiences at Western and to help other needy students.

PEPSI COLA ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP

Colorado residents. Must be a full-time student and have financial need. GPA of 3.0 or higher required for renewal.

Donation from Pepsi Cola and commission sales from Pepsi products sold on the Western State College campus.

Two $1,000 scholarships annually.

Available to:
Residents of Colorado's Western Slope. Must be accepted as a full-time student at Western State College and a cumulative 2.5 GPA.

ROUSE, ROBERTA M. SCHOLARSHIP


Available to:
Colorado residents. Must be a full-time student in good academic standing; must be planning a career in elementary education; demonstrated academic performance and financial need. Preference is given to students returning to college to continue their education.

Provided by:
Her children to honor their mother. Roberta Rouse met her husband, Fred, while they were attending Western State College. Following WW II, they returned to Western where Roberta supported her husband as he completed his education and began his career as an educator. After the birth of their last of nine children, Roberta returned to complete her BA and MA degrees in elementary education. Seven of their children also attended Western State College and five of the children became school teachers.

Permanent resident of a Colorado County whose Sheriff's Department is a participating member of the County Sheriffs of Colorado. Must be enrolled or applying and accepted into an institution of higher education as a full-time student.

The County Sheriffs of Colorado (CSOC), established in 1978 as an expression of the Sheriffs' confidence in and respect for education and training.

$500 per year.
