Admissions Requirements

All academic records (transcripts) and/or diplomas of your secondary and post secondary education must be mailed directly to the Admissions Office by the institutions that you have attended. These documents must bear official signatures in ink of the appropriate school official, such as the registrar, and bear the school’s official seal. If your previous schools will not mail original documents to Western, exact copies that have been certified as such by the appropriate officials should be sent. All documents appearing in another language must be accompanied by official English translations.

English Proficiency

Applicants whose native language is not English are required to demonstrate proficiency in English and provide an official transcript of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Minimum acceptable TOEFL scores are as follows:

  • iBT - 79-80
  • Paper Version - 550
  • Computer-Based Test - 213

This TOEFL requirement may be waived for international students who are transferring with at least 24 credits from a U.S. college or university and have successfully completed a college level English Composition course.

The computer-based TOEFL is administered by Sylvan Learning Systems, Inc., and given at Sylvan Technology Centers throughout the world. Financial Documentation

Western State Colorado University requires statements of financial support from all applicants with F-1 student visas. These statements must be filed before final admission is granted. Students should submit the Affidavit of Support Form certifying that they have full financial support for all expenses at Western State Colorado University (in U.S. currency) available for an academic year. In addition to that Affidavit of Support form, students should include a bank statement verifying that the funds for one academic year (9 months) are available. Please see the Affidavit of Support Form for the current estimate of expenses for international students at Western. It is essential to have this amount of money available the first year. Also, costs are likely to increase each year, since inflation increases tuition and the general cost of living. You should also be aware that the exchange rate for foreign currencies will fluctuate throughout your time in the United States.

International Students are not eligible for any financial aid from the University. All education and living expenses must be provided by some other source upon which you may depend.

If you will be supported by private sponsors (family or other individuals), submit the Affidavit of Support Form with the application for admission. You and you financial sponsor must sign the completed form. The form must be accompanied by an official bank statement or other documentary evidence of the sponsor’s ability to provide the support indicated.

If you are financially supported by your government, home institution, or sponsoring agency, then you must provide an official letter from the agency as evidence of financial support. The letter must guarantee support at least equal to the estimated costs quoted. The letter must be in English; it must specify the academic semester(s), billing address, and the level and field of study for which it is valid; and it must specify the U.S. dollar amount you will receive and how the funds will be paid. We will bill you directly if we don’t have the address of your sponsoring agency.
