GUNNISON, Colo. – Swimmers and divers are invited to train in the
highest collegiate facilities in the nation with the Altitude Training
Camp and Technique Training Camp this summer. Western State College Head
Women's Swimming and Diving Coach Brad Smith will conduct both camps in the swimming pool in Paul Wright Gym.
The Altitude Training Camp for ages 13-18 will take place July 8-12, and
will offer a progressive system to educate swimmers on training
principles and stroke efficiency while developing strength, speed and
endurance. The camp will also cover race strategy, dryland training,
goal setting and educational sessions on nutrition.
The Technique Training Camp for ages 10-18 will take place July 29
through Aug. 2, and is designed to teach skills and drills focused on
perfecting stroke and biomechanics in an easy to understand and
progressive system of development. The camp will provide an introduction
to dryland training and education for rest and recovery.
The rate for overnight campers for both camps is $300, and covers
lodging and meal costs on the Western State campus. Commuter campers can
participate for $200, and each additional family member can receive $25
off the camp rate. Teams with 10 or more overnight participant can also
receive $50 per athlete.
The 2012-13 season will be the first year for Mountaineer swimming since
the program was discontinued after the 1984 season. Western State won
three RMAC championships and finished with 32 All-Americans in the early
1980s.
