Packet pickup will be Sunday between 4-7pm in downtown Gunnison,
in conjunction with the Growler Bike Race festivities. Main Street
north, you will see a small park on the right where the bikers will be finishing and music and food will be set up. There will be a packet pick-up table for the Sage Burner. This is where you will also sign the event waiver.
Food and drink vendors will be available for purchase here. If you are wanting a sit-down pre-race pasta feed you can make reservations at Mario’s in town at 970-641-1374 or Garlic Mike’s 3 miles north of town at 970-641-2493.
The 25k and 50k races will start at 7 am at Hartman’s rocks (directions: *Approximately 3.5 miles from Downtown Gunnison – drive time about 5 minutes.
- Head West on Hwy 50 from downtown Gunnison and turn left on Gold Basin Road (follow the brown Hartman Rocks signs)
- Turn right into the base area for Hartman Rocks Recreation Area (at the big Hartman Rocks sign) there will be event parking starting at 6 a.m. on Monday.
Feel free to preview the area on Saturday or Sunday during the bike races-
just be aware of bike racers! There are plenty of other trails to run on
please keep the course clear for everyone’s safety. Growler race info can be found at www.gunnisontrails.com
The course map online is from last year-The course rotates
directions each year, so take note that the loop is run counter-clockwise
the Notch to the finish. (course stays the same otherwise)
This race covers a lot of acreage- but will be well marked for the bike race, and re-marked for the run following.
We want everyone to have a good and safe experience, and if a runner
isn’t able to make it to a checkpoint at a generously determined time for
50k (in order to finish by 9 hour cut-off), they will be re-routed to the 25k course. I don’t imagine this being a big issue as only a couple people in the past have had to be re-routed - but I would rather see a runner finish the shorter course than DNF the long course. Let me know if you have questions on this!
To keep our impact on the trails to a minimum, we are a cup-less race, as most trail races have become. We will have snacks, fruit, Acli-mate energy drink and water available at all stations, and will have plenty of fluids to refill your bottles- come prepared with a water bottle or hip-pouch. Email me if you have questions on this.
The finish area at the base of Hartman’s will have plenty of snacks and refuel drinks, and a local pizza oven vendor for purchase.
Come prepared for any weather (forecast for this week shows a high of
73 degrees, but will be much cooler at race start) - I will be
between feed stations on course and can pickup discarded clothing and take it to the finish as needed.
We are looking forward to a great event - and look forward to having you join us!
